Sneak Peek: Feeling Frosty, Snowflake Frames & Subtle Grey Tones Paper

Hi there!  Welcome to the third day of our Winter Sneak Peek Week!  All this week I am showcasing cards featuring our newest collection for the holidays which begins shipping on Friday, September 27th

Today's sneak peeks include a new 4x6 stamp set, two standalone dies and a new 6x6 Patterned Paper Pack. Let's get started!

Card No. 1:  For my first card of the day I created a 4.75" x 4.75" square card showcasing 5 of the 6 snowmen from our new Feeling Frosty Stamps together with the largest frame and scripty greeting from our new Layered Snowflake Frames. This die set comes with snowflake windows in two sizes that layer together or can be used separately like I did for this card. In addition to the "winter wishes" phrase, it includes 4 coordinating snowflakes to layer over the top or use on their own.

For this card I started by layering the die-cut, cut from white cardstock onto a piece of blue diagonal grid patterned paper from our Classic Gingham 6x6 Paper pack. I then used that as inspiration for coloring my snowmen, coloring them all in coordinating cool jewel tones using Copic Markers.

Card No. 2: For my next card, I went bright and happy focusing on the little companion tree from the Feeling Frosty set. I thought the stylized trees looked a little like the metal Christmas trees that Linus complains about in A Charlie Brown Christmas so I colored each one in a different cheerful color and went over them with my Nuvo Glitter pen for a bit of sparkle. To continue my Charlie Brown inspired scene, I strung the lights from our new Scenic Route Stamps overhead and used the leftover snowy patterned paper (from my critter sleigh card I shared on Monday) for my background and a striped paper from our Very Merry Paper Pack to tie in all the rainbow colors. To create my simple snow covered hillside, I used our Woodland Border Dies which I stamped my sentiment directly onto.

Card No. 3:
Up next a card using our other new standalone die called Snowflake Circle Frame (such an original name, right? I swear I'm terrible at naming things).  I love that the two components of this die can be used together or separately. Unlike the snowflakes in the first die set, this one has snowflakes in a large range of sizes and the loopy frame is so great for grounding focal point images all year 'round.

To make things really pop I mounted them onto a piece of black cardstock and tied all the colors in with a polka-dot print from our Very Merry Paper pack, rounding the bottom corners with my We R Memory Keeper Corner Chomper. For this card I used just half of the Winter Wishes die phrase, pairing it with the "wishes" word from our Alpaca Holiday stamps which I heat embossed with opaque white embossing powder. A Snowman from Feeling Frosty was the perfect focal point image and coordinating pearls placed in the center of each snowflake from our Rainbow Pearls embellishment mix were just the right finishing touch.

Card No. 4:
For this card I started by repeatedly stamping and heat embossing a piece of inexpensive watercolor paper with a snowy background using our Frosty Flurries stamps (making sure to cover a larger piece than I would need so I would have room to cut it down).  I then added a wash of rainbow colors over the top using Daniel Smith Watercolors (in Opera Pink, Permanent Orange, Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue, Phthalo Yellow Green, Cobalt Teal Blue, Manganese Blue, Phthalo Blue and Quinacridone Purple). The heat embossed portions resisted the color and the spots that maybe were a tiny bit stained could be repaired with my white Sharpie Pen.

To create my scalloped mat, I ran our new Scalloped Tag Square dies through my die-cutting machine twice with the top half of the die running off the edge of my plate so that it wouldn't cut that portion of the die. I then flipped the die the other direction and lined up the scallops going the other way, repeating the process to create a rectangle. This is a great way to elongate basic dies and get extra life from your supplies.  While it may not be something you want to do for mass producing, it's a great little trick to have in your back pocket.

I finished my little scene using images from our Feeling Frosty stamps which I colored to match using Copic Markers. When I was completely done and able to set my card aside to dry, I gave my hearts a bit of pizzazz by coating them with some Stickles Glam Pink Liquid Glitter by Ranger.

Card No. 5 (Outside): For this card I returned to the Layered Snowflake Frame dies, this time using them layered together on an A2 sized card front. For my background I used a blue snowflake print from our Holiday Cheer Paper pack that was layered with a snowy hill using our Woodland Border dies.  For my tree I used our Seasonal Trees Stamps which I colored in snowy hues and then topped with some glittery polka-dots using my favorite Stardust Stickles Glitter by Ranger. To create a visual triangle around my scene, I used three of the four snowflakes that come with the Layered Snowflake Frame dies and then colored my little snowman from our Feeling Frosty Stamps to match.

Inside Pop-up Card: For the inside of my card I was inspired to create a shadow box pop-up using THIS amazing video tutorial by Jennifer McGuire.

This time I had a little less space to work with so I only used the smaller of the two snowflake windows from the set. I also wanted to make sure my snowflakes didn't get bent up during use so I adhered a piece of acetate behind my little snowflake frame before permanently gluing the pop-up to the inside of my card.

To decorate my scene, I used the fourth leftover snowflake, together with the smaller tree from our Seasonal Trees Stamps and two snowmen with their hot cocoa mugs from our Feeling Frosty stamps.  I rarely stamp the inside of my cards so my mom will literally be shocked when she comes across this one (since she has a habit of opening each one I show her despite them being empty in there).  ;)

Gift Tag Set:  For my final project of the day I have a trio of holiday gift tags using our new stitched Scalloped Square Tag Dies (the same ones I elongated for card no. 3) together with our Feeling Frosty Snowmen. I mass produced a bunch of these using all the great tone-on-tone prints from our Very Merry Paper pack, stamping the "to" and "from" using our new Season's Greetings stamps featured more tomorrow. Little baker's twine bows which I adhered with some hot glue were the perfect, quick finishing touch. For these I will adhere them directly to my gifts with some double sided tape.
