Roly Poly Penguins Cards with Tina

Hi there crafty friends, Tina here and today we are creating a set of three mini cards with the adorable Roly Poly Penguins stamp and die set.

Sunny Studio Stamps: Roly Poly Penguins Winter Themed Christmas Mini Cards by Tina Henkens (featuring Mini Mat & Tag Dies, Stitched Square Dies, Inside Greetings Seasons, Circle Snowflake Frame Dies)

Making these cute sized cards is super easy with the Mini Mat & Tag series (I used Mini Mat & Tag 1, Mini Mat & Tag 2 and Mini Mat & Tag 4). I opted for three festive papers in pink, red and teal from the Joyful Holiday pack.

Instead of using the additional tag dies I created a frame in each paper with one of the Stiched Square dies. Next, I used my paper trimmer to create 3 rectangles from white card stock slightly smaller than my colored papers. The bottom of these pieces where turned into little snowbanks for my penguins to stand on, while the rest was inked in a similar color with Distress oxides (Candied Apple, Kitsch Flamingo, Salty Ocean). I didn’t like the stark white background and these subtle lines bring extra detail to the card design without distracting from the focal point. I colored the cute penguins (Roly Poly Penguins stamp) with my Copics and added white highlights with a paint pen.

After creating little white card bases, I glued all the layers to the base before mounting the penguins with foam tape. I had ample space for a lovely sentiment and that is why I selected three phrases from the versatile Inside Greetings Seasons set. I stamped them on white card stock with Versafine Onyx Black ink.

To embellish the mini cards I used my favorite die of the season, the Snowflake Circle FrameI use this die on so many of my holiday cards, it’s such a staple in your winter cardmaking sessions! After adding three snowflakes to each card, I added some bling using the Jewels Bright mix, the pastel Jewel mix and the Red Zircon Jewels.

I hope you give these mini cards a try, they are really so fun to make! Thank you for joining me and happy crafting!

Potted Rose Scalloped Mini Mat Card Set with Mendi

Hello and welcome! This is Mendi here today, popping in to share some more cards featuring our Potted Rose StampsI had stamped several rosebuds, leaves, and flowerpots from various colors years ago when this set was first released. I'm obsessed with mass-producing layering images so I can have them on hand to grab for quick cards since half the batttle feels like getting them aligned and set up in the Misti.

Sunny Studio Flowerpot Cards using Potted Rose & Everyday Greetings Clear Stamps, Mini Mat & Tag 2 Dies, & Stripes Stencils

I struggled to decide which color scheme I liked better, so I thought creating two versions of the same clean and simple card design with different color palettes would be fun. Half the battle is pulling out all the supplies, so doing them together in an assembly line didn't add much more time to my process. I started by laying all my images out where I wanted them and then carefully adhering the pieces to the flowerpot with liquid adhesive. Once I had an arrangement I was happy with, I used the first card as a template for my second card. I stacked the pieces on top of each other, giving me an easy way to quickly assemble them without the guesswork involved with the first card. I then stamped each flowerpot with my "best wishes" sentiment from our Everyday Greetings Stamps using VersaFine Onyx Black Ink and added foam tape to the back of the entire floral grouping.

To frame each card, I die-cut the scalloped mat using our Mini Mat & Tag 2 Dies, adhering thin strips of complimentary colored cardstock behind the eyelet lace holes to have the color peek out. For my card background, I inked a striped tone-on-tone print using our Diagonal & Straight Stripes Stencils with the same dye inks I used in my floral arrangements.

I still can't pick a favorite. Which color palette is your favorite?

I am frequently asked which ink colors I used for my layered images. Some of these images were previously stamped using now-retired Colorbox inks; however, I spent considerable time trying to find the closest matches to share them here with you (from lightest to darkest).

Garden Critters 4-Card Set with Mendi

Hello and welcome! This is Mendi here today, popping in to share some bug-themed cards for Summer using our Garden Critters Stamps.

I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to make all four of my cards today using the same core group of five Sunny Studio supplies and a single design template or "sketch" to speed up the cardmaking process. By doing this I was able to focus on making each card feel unique with the individual stamp images featured and the patterned papers I used. I was shocked to realize I was able to complete 4 cute cards in the amount of time that I would usually only get one or two cards done!

I will also note, that for each new release, I always stamp every square inch of my favorite Copic Marker paper with as many images from a new stamp set that I can squeeze onto a 8.5" x 11" sheet so I can have a bunch of die-cut images ready to go for any cards I create promoting the new sets. For all my cards I'm sharing this summer, I am also challenging myself to use up as many leftover images as possible that I have already stamped and die-cut, but that never made it onto a card. It always makes me feel so good putting them to use and trying to use up every last piece. Not only does it give these scraps of paper new life to make someone happy, but it is also helping me clear off my desk with the huge bin of stamped images I have sitting here, where I have them grouped in baggies and sorted by stamp set.

Sunny Studio Dragonfly, Bee, Ladybug Bug Cards using Garden Critter Clear Stamps, Rounded Rectangle Dies & Spring Fling Paper

Card No.1: My first card combines the ladybugs, grasshoppers, and caterpillar from our Garden Critters Stamps. These images nicely complement each other with a complementary red and green color scheme. These colors aren't just for Christmas, and I love how good they look together for a fresh summer card! To frame my scene I layered our Rounded Rectangle Mat Dies with the scalloped frame from our Mini Mat & Tag 2 Dies. Our super cute Spring Fling Paper pack features happy prints in a rainbow of pastel colors, so many of the prints weren't going to work with my red ladybugs, but this grass print from the set was a perfect match!

Card No. 2: For my next card I used the sunshine, bees, and punny greeting from our Garden Critters Stamps. However, I'm only realizing in this moment that I unintentionally cheated on my challenge because the beehive I had previously stamped and saved with my die-cuts is actually from our Just Bee-cause Stamps. My little scene worked better with a vertical orientation, so I love that this simple design works well for both portrait or landscape-style cards.

Sunny Studio Bumblebee Card using Garden Critter Clear Craft Stamps, Rounded Rectangle Mat Dies & Spring Fling 6x6 Paper Pad

Card No. 3: Not all the prints in the Spring Fling Paper pack include aqua tones, so this pastel rainbow chevron-patterned paper was so perfect for my dragonflies, which I had already colored in iridescent shades of lilac and aqua. Their big bug eyes make me smile every time I see them!

Sunny Studio Dragonfly & Snail Card using Garden Critter Clear Craft Stamps, Rounded Rectangle Mat Dies, & Spring Fling Paper

Card No. 4: I will admit, I meant to adhere this little scene to the card no.3 background with the "You make my heart flutter" sentiment, but I absentmindedly glued it down tight to the wrong card while watching tv at 2am. This particular card background was supposed to be reserved for my first card. I was so mad at myself, realizing the ladybugs weren't going to work with the pastel chevron striped background I had left, but then I realized this particular combo didn't look bad together, so after my mini internal tantrum, I decided to shift things around like musical chairs and to create a fourth card. With that in mind, I ended up with two cards with the grass background (because my first card wasn't going to work with any of the other prints from the set). Still, I was pleased that I was able to make it work, without too much heartache, other than using up another sheet of my favorite grass paper--It's one of those prints that I save every square inch of because it works so well for scene-building cards.

Roly Poly Penguins Holiday Gift Tags with Tina

Hi crafty friends, Tina here and we are getting ready for the holiday season with these fun tags featuring the Mini Mat & Tag 1 and Mini Mat & Tag 2 die sets. Both sets contain rectangle mats but also all the elements to create fabulous tags.

Sunny Studio Stamps: Roly Poly Holiday Gift Tags by Tina Henkens (featuring Mini Mat & Tag Dies)

To start, I die cut the bases for both tags from white card stock. Next, I used the same dies to create a sparkly snowbank from glitter paper. The sets have separate pieces for the tag toppers. For these I selected matching papers from the All Is Bright pack.

The white tag bases were colored with a cloud stencil from my stash and Distress Oxides Peeled Paint and Picked Raspberry.

I let these backgrounds dry and then added the toppers and snow. For the focal point and star of the show, I stamped and colored two adorable cuties from Roly Poly Penguins. I went with pink, teal and green Copic markers, a color combination I really like for winter projects. The penguins were added to the tags with foam tape for dimension.

Next, I got my splatter box out and some white paint which I diluted with a bit of water. I put the tags inside of the box and selected a fine brush to start adding some snow to the tags. The results are much more random than using a white gel pen, but I love the look on these little scenes.

The sentiment was taken from the Victorian Christmas set and I used matching teal and pink inks from my stash. Finally, I added some pink and green ribbon to the tags.

I hope you’ll have fun creating holiday tags! Thank you for visiting the blog and happy crafting!
