Hawaiian Hibiscus & Radiant Plumeria Tropical Flower Cards with Mendi

Hello and welcome! This is Mendi here today, popping in to share some tropical flower cards featuring our Hawaiian Hibiscus Stamps and Radiant Plumeria Stamps.

My first card today showcases the beautiful Hawaiian Hibiscus Stamps. I stamped a number of these flowers in an assembly line, so I had many vibrant colors available to mix and match. Both of my cards today were inspired by a wood texture, so I embossed a piece of kraft paper using the Woodgrain Embossing Folder. To emphasize the wonderful texture, I colored over the surface using a Vintage Photo Distress Crayon. Then I rubbed it in with a lightly damp cloth, being careful not to rub it into the background. I followed up, using a blending brush to add Vintage Photo distress ink over the entire piece. For my sentiment, I inked up another piece of kraft paper with the same distress ink, added a stitched edge with the Ribbon & Lace Border Dies, and heat-embossed the "Aloha" greeting from the Tiki Time Stamps.

My second card features the pretty Radiant Plumeria Stamps with a clean and simple design. I started by inking a subtle tone-on-tone overall background print using the Split Philodendron leaf image from the set with Gina K. Sandy Beach Ink on kraft cardstock. I had considered adding the additional layers for this set but favored the less busy look of the single layer. I had three Stitched Circle Die cuts leftover (from the card I shared HERE) that I wanted to put to good use, and I thought they would be perfect layered behind the tropical flowers with the wood texture of the cardstock. I completed my card with a sentiment from the set stamped with VersaFine Clair Acorn Ink and embellished with some Pink Ombre Pearls.

I am frequently asked which ink colors I used for my layered images. Some of these images were previously stamped using now-retired Colorbox inks; however, I spent considerable time trying to find the closest matches to share them here with you (from lightest to darkest).

Savanna Safari & Silly Sloths Cards with Mendi

Hello and welcome! This is Mendi here today, popping in to share some critter cards for Summer!

For my first card, I showcased the adorable African critters from our Savanna Safari Stamps. I took inspiration from some graphic art which I reimagined with stamps. I started by inking my card panel background with Scattered Straw distress ink. I then masked off the clouds using Spellbinders Masking Sheets with our Majestic Meadow Dies and Tulip Path Background Dies and a basic circle die for the sun. For my next layer of ink, I covered the top half with fossilized amber distress ink. I then peeled off just the cloud masks and inked my panel once again with Wild Honey distress ink, fading it out towards the center where my horizon would land.

I then die-cut two stitched hillside borders using our Slimline Nature Border Dies and marked in pencil where they would land and set them aside so I could stamp five of the Baobab trees in PinkFresh Studio Doe Ink. I then colored one hillside to match using Tea Dye distress ink and a second one using Vintage Photo and Gina K. Warm Cocoa Ink. I used that same warm cocoa ink to stamp some tufts of grass from the Savanna Safari set. 

Lastly, I arranged my critters in the scene and then stamped my greeting from the set. Please pretend the top line was stamped higher than it is. That was the very last thing I did and I was so bummed it stamped lower than I was planning. Especially since I was so happy this card had turned out, exactly how I had envisioned it up to that point. Ha-ha! It's the story of my life.

For my second card, I moved from Africa to South America with a card featuring our Silly Sloths Stamps. I started by inking up my background using Twisted Citron distress ink, lightening it towards the center of my card panel. I then stamped layers of tropical leaves using our Radiant Plumeria Stamps with VersaFine Clair Verdant Green Ink and Gina K. Key Lime Ink. I had colored and fussy cut these images out back when these stamps first came out in 2019, so my goal was to use up all the remaining images I had on hand. I needed a few extra tree branches to complete my vision though so I added the branch from our Love Birds Stamps and another from our Little Birdie Stamps. I completed my card by taking one of the sentiments from the set and enlarging the word "hanging" by spelling it out with our Hayley Lowercase Alphabet Dies and the question mark from our Chloe Alphabet Dies.

Tropical Birds Card with Cathy

Hey friends! Cathy here today and I’m excited to share a tropical rainforest scene card featuring the adorable toucans from the Tropical Birds Stamps!

This was such a fun card to make! First, I die-cut a piece of white cardstock using the frame portion of the Frilly Frames Quatrefoil Dies and inked it with Tumbled Glass Distress ink on the right and left sides. I then inked towards the center of the panel with Salvaged Patina and Peacock Feathers Distress ink and adhered it to an A2 card front.

For the waterfall background, I die-cut a piece of white cardstock using the largest Stitched Oval Die and inked the bottom 3/4" of the oval with Peacock Feathers, Salvaged Patina and a slight amount of Mowed Lawn Distress inks. I very lightly inked the right and left sides of the oval above the water with Simon Says Stamp Celery ink. I then colored the waterfall in the center of the oval (about a 1 1/4" wide section) using long streaks of Copic markers (BG49, BG34, BG23, BG13, BG11, BG10) leaving some white showing between the streaks. For the spray where the waterfall meets the pool below, I repeatedly dabbed a white paint pen. To complete the scene, I stamped 2 rocks from the Ocean View Stamps in a light gray ink for no-line coloring. I colored them with Copics (E44, E43, E42, E41, N1, N0), fussy cut them out and adhered them on each side of the waterfall.

Next, I die-cut a piece of black cardstock using the largest Fancy Frames Oval Dies, adhered the waterfall scene centered on the frame and adhered the combined piece to the card front.

To finish, I die-cut leaves from black cardstock using the Summer Greenery Dies and adhered them to both sides of the oval. I stamped monstera leaves from the Radiant Plumeria Stamps and die-cut them using the coordinating dies. I stamped the images from the Tropical Birds Stamps on Neenah Classic Crest 80lb solar white cardstock, colored them with Copics and die-cut them using the coordinating dies. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder on a strip of black cardstock.
