Sneak Peek: Cruising Critters, Plane Awesome, Cityscape & Fluffy Cloud Borders

Hello and welcome to our Fall Sneak Peek Week!  All this week I will be showcasing cards using our new collection for Autumn debuting on Friday, July 12th

Today's sneak peeks consist of critters traveling by car and airplane with one new 4x6 Stamp set, a new 3x4 stamp set, their coordinating dies and two new standalone dies which are perfect for scene building.  Let's jump right in!

Card No. 1: My first card of the day uses our new Cruising Critter stamps together with a new Cityscape Border die.  I started by inking up the background of my card panel with Moonstone & Scuba Dyestress inks by Colorbox.  I then cut out my city scene using a light grey cardstock (and backed it with a piece of light blue cardstock for the windows using a cutting file on my Silhouette which will be available as a free download on the product page).

These critters come without the party hats so to help them get in the birthday spirit, I borrowed hats from our Purrfect Birthday Stamps and Party Pups Stamps.  For my balloon bouquet, I used the balloon from our Oceans of Joy stamps and taped pieces of black thread to the backs of them for a touch a realism.  For my sentiment and dotted street I heat embossed them using versamark ink, together with opaque white embossing powder. The set comes with a nice little dotted border that is perfect for repeating to create streets like this one.

Card No.2:  For my next take on the Cruising Critter stamps, I created an evening scene using Stardust Stickles glitter glue by Ranger to create my starry sky.  This time I die-cut my city buildings from black cardstock using our new Cityscape Border die and backed them with yellow cardstock.  For my greeting, I used a sentiment from the set, together with a new product that I will be sharing more of later in the week called Comic Strip Speech Bubbles dies. So excited to finally have some fun new ways to stamp my sentiments!
Sunny Studio Stamps: Cruising Critters Animals in Car At Night Thank You Card (using Cityscape Border & Comic Strip Speech Bubble Dies)

Card No.3:  I wanted to get my critters out of the city so for this card I created a countryside with rolling hills using our Woodland Border dies and set my little scene in the background using the cloud, sunshine and trees from our Comic Strip Everyday dies and patterned paper from our Classic Gingham 6x6 Paper pack.  For my street, I hand-cut some angled curves using some scraps of cardstock and then used my favorite Sharpie White Extra Fine Point paint pen to draw in my dashed line.  As a final finishing touch I stamped the "hi" sentiment using our Hawaiian Hibiscus Stamps onto a bubble from those same Comic Strip Speech Bubbles Dies.
Sunny Studio Stamps: Cruising Critters Animals in Car Hillside Handmade Card (using Woodland Borders & Comic Strip Everyday Dies)

The Cruising Critters dies comes with a bonus word die for more design options so I used it to continue my sentiment onto the inside of my card (using the word "hello" from our Fabulous Flamingos stamps).  I then stamped the critters again just as an outline driving off my card, but as luck would have it, I messed it up and needed to stamp it again (and of course I couldn't find where I had put the die on my messy desk so I ended up just fussy cutting it).
Sunny Studio Stamps: Cruising Critters Animals in Car Handmade Card (using word die from coordinating dies)

Card No.4:  Up next I have several cards using our new Plane Awesome Stamps. This set comes with an airplane and five different critter pilots to put at the controls. It also comes three little connected exhaust clouds so I started by tracing a basic die-cut heart lightly with my pencil onto my inked up card panel.  I then used those 3 little clouds to stamp along my light pencil outlines.  When I was certain the ink was good and dry, I then erased my pencil lines and "colored" inside my clouds using the Tsukineko Neon Amplify! White pen.  These are super cool!  When they are heated up with a heat gun, they puff up to look like real clouds (or snow depending on the application).  I have used similar products in the past, but this one has a much better tip with a bottle that is easy to control and apply. Love it!

To complete my scene I embellished with two little cloud stamps from the set, pairing them with a stamped greeting and the word "soar" which was cutout using our Loopy Letters dies. To tie a bit more yellow in and add interest to my card, I then added a polka-dot border using patterned paper from our Polka-dot Parade Paper pack and a little zig zag border created with our Ric Rac Border dies.
Sunny Studio Stamps: Plane Awesome "you make my heart soar" Monkey in Airplane Card (using Ric Rac Border & Loopy Letters Dies + Polka-dot Parade 6x6 Paper)

Card No.5: For this card my airplane has a different kind of trail... A heart trail!  I did my best to line up our new stitched 5.75" Fluffy Cloud Border dies to repeat them twice across my elongated style card (by running them twice through my die-cutting machine). This card measures 9-3/8" wide x 4" high and fits inside a business style envelope. I enjoyed having the longer palette to scatter my hearts across. I just felt like I was missing a little something so I pulled out the birdie from our Seasonal Trees Stamps to complete my scene. To add more dimension between my layers, I inked up the edges of my cloud borders using Tumbled Glass distress ink together with my favorite Jumbo Dauber ink applicator. I'm so in love with the even ink coverage I get with these compared to other tools I tried (including the now popular make-up applicators).
Sunny Studio Stamps: Hoping Your Day is Plane Awesome Dog Flying Airplane with Trailing Hearts Card (using Fluffy Clouds Border dies & Birds from Seasonal Trees Stamps)

Card No.6: For my next card I paired that same Cityscape Border with my airplane, this time cutting it from Navy cardstock and backing it with white windows for a daytime scene. I inked up my sky on white cardstock using Colorbox Sky dye ink and gave my little propeller a sense of motion using the two "wind" stamps from the set using that same sky blue ink.  I then added my sentiment to a banner from the set, pairing it with the two clouds.
Sunny Studio Stamps: Plane Awesome "sending hugs" Airplane flying over city with banner card (using Cityscape Border die)

Card No.7:  For my last card of the day I went with a fresh color scheme, coloring my airplane an unexpected lime green and putting a white polar bear in the driver's seat.  I wasn't able to fit my entire sentiment onto one banner so I decided there was no reason I couldn't have two and I love the way it looks!  I once again inked up my stitched Fluffy Cloud Borders with some Tumbled Glass distress ink.  I then added a little interest to the bottom of my card with a strip of green star paper from our Surprise Party 6x6 Paper pack and a piece of blue striped paper from our Striped Silly 6x6 Paper pack.  I was still feeling like my card was missing a little something so I adhered 3 transparent green drops using the Rainbow Crystal Drops embellishments.  Love how they balance out the visual weight of the airplane on the other side of the card!

That wraps up today's sneak peeks.  I'm so happy you've joined me!  I'd love to give a $25 gift code to one lucky winner using the rafflecopter below.  Make sure to keep checking back all this week for more peeks & prizes for up to five chances to win. The contests run through Saturday at Midnight PST with winners announced here on Sunday, July 14th. :)

  1. If everything goes smoothly I would say air travel. But it really doesn't happen much anymore - lots of delays, lost luggage, etc. However if a drive is longer than 8 hours, I choose to fly

    ReplyDelete
  2. Both have their advantages. Flying gets you there quickly, driving lets you enjoy the scenery.

  3. I prefer road trips because for some reason flying makes me nervous--irrational, I know.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Road Trips! That's the best to see the sights along the way. I will fly but it's been decades and I was never crazy about it.

  8. I've only flown a couple times. I definitely loved all the time saved and prefer it over a car trip.

  9. Both!! lol We love road trips whether they be close to home or after flying to get there. We love to get out and explore and just do our own thing.
Love the new products! And always love your beautifully colored cards.

  21. Hi Mendi! I always look forward to your releases and it's no wonder when you are constantly coming up with the cutest and creative products! Loving the Cruising Critters so much as well as the Cityscape border die. The critters in the airplane are so adorable, the expressions on their faces so sweet! I love how they are interchangeable. As for me, road trips are my fave! I get severe anxiety from flying.

    1. I didn't see the question before commenting. Soooo, it depends on the trip--If there is a lot to see along the way, I like to drive. If we just need to get from here to there (like CA to NYC), I like to fly. Overall I would say fly? That is a toughie!!

Love the sneak peek cards for the new release--that pile of critters is adorable, all decked out in party hats and balloons. Great job on all of the creativity!
