Sneak Peek Week: Elegant Leaves, Just Bee-cause & New Frilly Frames

Hello and welcome to last day of our Fall Sneak Peek Week!  All this week I have been showcasing cards using our new collection for Autumn debuting today!  Make sure to check out the rest of this post for new items, a video sharing the entire release and special 4-day shopping codes.

Today I'm sharing two last stamps sets with their matching dies and two new Frilly Frames die sets that mix and match with our previously released Frilly Frames sets.

Card No. 1:  Up first is a card using our new Elegant Leaves Stamps.  I started by watercoloring a piece of watercolor paper using a mix of Daniel Smith watercolors.  When my paper was fully dry I then stamped the leaves from the stamp set onto my background with Versafine Onyx Black ink and fussy cut them out.  I then stamped those same leaves in a scattered pattern onto a piece of kraft cardstock.  This allowed me to cut the stems right off my leaves and make quick work of hand cutting them out.  

This set comes with one over-sized scripty "Thankful" word, a smaller "scripty "grateful" word and a number of other supporting words to mix and match offering a variety of greeting options.  For this card I stamped the word thankful in Versafine ink and then stamped the "for your kindness" in Versamark ink onto brown cardstock which I heat embossed with white embossing powder.  As a final touch I added a strip of striped patterned paper from our Colorful Autumn Paper pack. I love how it ties together with all the colors in my leaves and it wasn't even planned. A scattering of the crystals (linked below) helped fill in some empty spaces between my leaves and add even more color to my card.

Card No.2:    For my next card I also watercolored my leaves, but this time I started by stamping two of the leaves from the set with Versamark ink onto watercolor paper and heat embossed them with gold embossing powder, working with small sections at a time until the entire card panel was embossed.  I then colored my leaves in a gradient pattern using Daniel Smith watercolors with one of my favorite analogous color schemes.

I then trimmed down my card to 4" x 5.25" and mounted it onto a piece of gold metallic cardstock.  For my sentiment I blended together those same paint colors on a scratch piece of watercolor paper and when it was completely dry, I die-cut a stitched label from it using our Sliding Window Dies. I then heat embossed my sentiment with gold embossing powder and added a scattering of Clear Drops 1 and 2 to give the look of water droplets.

Card No.3: Up next is a card using the Elegant Leaves Stamps in a beautiful bouquet.  For one of the Ash Leaves, the set comes with both a bold solid version, as well as a outlined version that can be layered together like I did here (with Colorbox Banana Ink and Versafine Onyx Black ink) or used separately for three looks in one. 

For my background, I cut our new Frilly Frames Hexagon dies from cheap cardstock to use as a stencil which I applied to my background with some Colorbox Seattle Sky and a jumbo dauber. I then cut a stitched mat around it using our new Frilly Frames Retro Petals dies and mounted it on a piece of patterned paper from our Classic Gingham Paper pack. As a last touch I used the yellow drops from the Rainbow Crystal Drops embellishment mix to add a little extra texture and shine to my card.

Card No.4:  For this card I stared by die-cutting a panel using our new Frilly Frames Retro Petals dies, but rather than use it in the same vertical orientation as my card, I turned the die on it's side, starting by die-cutting first the top half and then running it again with the bottom half, overlapping the die by one row just to keep things lined up for the second pass through my machine.  I then layered it over the top of another piece of cardstock in the same color for a nice ivory tone-on-tone texture.  My daughter and I traveled down the state of California visiting many of the UC schools over Spring break this year and this reminds me so much of the 1960's architecture motifs we saw, hence the name "retro petals".

For my leaves I used that same watercolor sampler that I created earlier to also stamp and heat emboss my leaves for this card, this time using a metallic bronze embossing powder.  I heat embossed my sentiment to match using a phrase from our Autumn Greetings Stamps.

Here's a look at the watercolor sampler sheet that I created by experimenting with various Daniel Smith watercolors which was used to stamp my leaves for card's no. 1 and 4...  

I'm a major control freak when it comes to watercolor mediums so they often don't suit my personality. However, by just taping a piece of watercolor paper to a board and feeling the freedom to let loose and only keep the parts that appealed to me, this worked out wonderful. In fact I almost wanted to frame this and not use it for it's intended purpose when I was done.

Card No.5:  Up next is a bold, graphic card using the Elegant Leaves Stamps around the perimeter.  This card has a bit of a tropical vibe making these "fall" stamps feel suitable for all sorts of occasions!  For my inks, I used Stampin' Up Bermuda Bay, Colorbox Ocean, Colorbox Cornflower & Colorbox Deep Sea.

Card No.6:  While the images were set up in my stamp positioning tool I created a similar style card with the leaves around the perimeter, but this time I used Colorbox Seattle Sky, Colorbox Ocean, Colorbox Banana & Colorbox Deep Sea ink for my color palette.  I finished off the card with a stitched scallop frame from our Fancy Frames Rectangle dies and a sentiment from our Happy Thoughts stamps and Greetings Word die.

Card No.7:  For my last two cards of the day I used our brand new 2x3 stamp set called Just Bee-cause.  This set comes with two darling bees, a beehive and two punny sentiments.  For my first card I used our new Frilly Frames Retro Petal dies to cut both the petal design and the stitched mat which I backed with little squares of colored cardstock in a fun rainbow pattern and topped with coordinating pearls by Studio Katia and Doodlebug.  I then mounted the Frilly Frame mat on top of our largest Fancy Frames Rectangle dies.  To ground my little bee scene I then used a circle from our Fancy Frames Circle dies.

Card No.8:  For my second card using our Just Bee-cause stamps I turned to our new Frilly Frames Hexagon dies which are such a great match with their honeycomb feel!  I cut them out of one shade of textured yellow cardstock and then backed them with a slightly darker shade of yellow for a tone-on-tone effect.

To create a focal point for my bees I cut out our Stitched Oval dies together with our Fancy Frames Oval Dies, inking up the center with a little tumbled glass distress ink to give my hive a little summer glow.  For my sentiment, I stamped it on a ribbon slider from our Fancy Frames Rectangle dies which was cut from our Gingham Pastels Paper pack.  I slid a little polka-dot organza ribbon through the slider and wrapped it around my card panel using a flower print from our Flirty Florals Paper pack. As one last final touch, I used the "string" and bow from our A Bird's Life Stamps to have my beehive hang from.

Sneak Peek: Super Duper, Heroic Halftones & Comic Strip Speech Bubbles

Hello and welcome to our Fall Sneak Peek Week!  All this week I will be showcasing cards using our new collection for Autumn debuting tomorrow on Friday, July 12th. 

I have been sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for today to arrive. I didn't expect to fall as hard as I did for our new Super Duper Stamps and dies, Comic Strip Speech Bubbles dies and Heroic Halftones 6x6 Paper pack.  In fact I have 8 unique cards to share with you today and I would have had even more if I didn't run out of time.  There's so many fun ways to use these sets!

Card No. 1:  These new stamps match really well with our Cityscape Border (and fluffy cloud border) dies shared on Monday giving you even more ways to mix and match products!  Our Heroic Halftones Paper pack comes with lots of great prints that are reminiscent of comic book printing, although look awesome for everyday cards as well.  I used the sunburst pattern in blue for my background and one of the little superheros, lightening bolts and shooting stars from our Super Duper stamps.  For my sentiment I used one of the speech bubbles from our Comic Strip Speech Bubbles dies, popping it up with foam tape.

Card No.2: For this spotlight style card, I started by inking up my white cardstock panel with Salty Ocean distress ink. I then used our Sunny Borders Dies To mask off 3 ovals and inked up around them using Mermaid Lagoon distress ink.  I then fussy cut three angled masks (creating one and then using it to trace two more), lining them up over the oval masks and applied an even layer of Blueprint Sketch over the entire card and and Black Soot distress ink a little more lightly in the corners giving the spotlights a glowing appearance. 

After removing the mask I added some "sparkle" with a Sharpie Extra Fine White Paint pen, flicking out a couple of the dots for extra sparkle. When I was sure my card was good and dry, I added a little anti-static powder where I wanted my sentiment to go and then stamped my greeting with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with opaque white embossing power.

Card No.3: For this card I wanted to really showcase all that you can do with the new Comic Strip Speech Bubbles Die.  I was able to combine three of the speech bubbles with the new stitched comic strip frame for a very retro funny papers vibe, however this product is one I think I'm going to get a ton of mileage for with other styles of cards.  I often struggle with finding a good way to add greetings to my cards and these came to my rescue more than once.  ;)

For my background I started with a sun ray patterned paper from our Spring Sunburst Paper pack and then created scenes in each square using our Fluffy Cloud Border dies, Cityscape Border dies and the grass from our Comic Strip Everyday dies.  The clouds were looking a little bare and unbalanced with the weight of the other frames so I embellished them with a couple scattered stars from our Primary Star Confetti which solved that problem and added a little extra color to my scenes.

Card No.4: For my next card I got away from primary colors and went with an analogous color scheme. When I was researching classic superhero themes, I realized clouds are not always the fluffy white variety so I decided to use our new Fluffy Clouds Border dies with one of the halftone prints from our Heroic Halftone Paper pack. I then cut a second one from black cardstock, offset them and popped them up with foam tape for an exploding effect. Love the shadows it creates!  I used another pattern from the pack for my background and then the fluffy cloud speech bubble for my greeting.

Card No.5:  I used that same exploding clouds idea on my next card, this time layering them along the perimeter of my card to create a border to hide my clear acetate shaker window behind.  I had the other half of the Cityscape Border die-cut leftover from card no. 3 that I put inside my window along the bottom of my scene and then created a visual triangle with the two superheros and speech bubble.  This style of thought bubble comes with two different options for the little "clouds" leading up to the bubble (which you can see on both this card and card no. 4). As my shaker filler, I used our Primary Star Confetti clay embellishments which are such a great compliment to these stamps.

Card No.6: I've been itching to create another card with our Sliding Window dies and the Superheros are the perfect images to pop up with these fun interactive dies.

I made them so that the fluffy cloud border along the top of my card front was placed just above the fold for the sliding window and then adhered the bottom two clouds and stamped superhero so that there wasn't any adhesive above that same fold.  That way the clouds blend together when the window is closed, but then pop up to have only clouds on the edge when opened, giving the appearance the superhero is flying through the air.

I embellished my card front with red and blue die-cut stars from our Comic Strip Speech Bubbles dies and then added another superhero girl and heat embossed greeting in the hidden window below.

Card No.7: For this card I used the new Comic strip dies in a more graphic way, rather than a literal comic strip style card.  Just call it my version of Piet Mondrian.  ;)  I filled the openings using a mix of our Heroic Halftones Papers and then embellished my card with Studio Katia Iridescent Star Crystals.

Card No.8: My last card uses all the same elements as the previous card, but with a different arrangement.  For each release I mass produce cards for brick and mortar stores who carry our products to display and I was experimenting with different arrangements before settling on the first option.  ;)
