Guest Designer Spotlight: Cards with Leanne West

Hi friends! Leanne West here today and I’m so happy to be back with three more projects showcasing the fantastic Holiday release stamps and dies. I’ll be sharing all the Sunny Studio products I’ve used and some details for each so let’s get started.

Sunny Studio Stamps: Happy Owlidays Foxy Christmas Santa's Stocking Dies Christmas Themed Cards by Leanne West

This first card features the adorable little owls from the Happy Owlidays stamp set. I’ve stamped and colored all three owls with Copic markers. I’ve used E70, E71, and E74 for the owl’s body - a nice cool brown combo for winter critters. I used the coordinating dies to cut out all my colored images. I then used the Window Trio Square die to create a long banner with openings to house my owls. The frame part is cut from the light grey dotted pattern paper from the Holiday Cheer 6x6 paper pack. For the small squares behind the owls, I inked up some white card stock with Salty Ocean Distress Oxide ink and dotted with white paint.

I used an A6 sized white card base and covered the front with some of the red gingham paper cut slightly smaller. This paper is also from the Holiday Cheer 6x6 paper pack. I adhered the window frame banner with foam adhesive. I added the blue background squares and then the owls. I white heat embossed sentiments from the Happy Owlidays stamp set onto some black card stock strips. After I added the sentiment strips, I felt the card needed just a bit of embellishment. I die cut three stars using dies from the Window Trio Square set and added them in two clusters with some clear sequins.

My next card features two of the little foxes from Foxy Christmas. I have a go-to Copic combo for foxes - E13, E15, and E17. It’s the perfect reddish brown. I wanted to create a winter scene for my foxes so I used the birch tree dies from the Rustic Winter set to die cut three trees. I cut a panel of Bristol Smooth card stock slightly smaller than an A2 sized card and sponged on some Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Ink. To give the look of some additional trees in the background, I took the negative cut from the birch tree dies and used it as a stencil to add four trees with the Chipped Sapphire ink. I liberally splattered white paint over the background for a snowy look.

I created three snowy hills using the Woodland Border dies. I lightly inked the bottom of each with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink and then layered them over the background panel. I added the images to the scene and tucked some in between the snow layers. I added a sentiment from the Foxy Christmas set. I cut a banner using a die from the Fancy Frames Rectangles set and heat embossed the sentiment in silver. Lastly I added some dots of Nuvo Crystal Drops in white to the background for even more snow!

For my last project, I’ve used the Santa’s Stocking dies to make a decorative gift card holder. I started by adhering strips of pattern paper from the Holiday Cheer 6x6 paper pack to a piece of sturdy white card stock. This is a great way to use up those paper scraps! I then cut two stockings - one from the paper pieced panel and one from plain white. I used my sewing machine to stitch the front and back of the stocking together. I die cut the top cuff, heel, and stocking toe pieces from white card stock and embossed these pieces using the Cable Knit embossing folder.

To decorate the stocking, I added the holly and berries onto the cuff and then tucked two die cut candy canes inside. I used some bakers twine to tie a bow around one of the candy canes. To finish, I added a silver heat embossed sentiment on a oval label I die cut using the smallest Stitched Oval die. The sentiment is from the Gleeful Reindeer stamp set. The opening of the stocking is the perfect size to insert a gift card inside and by adding a hanger with the twine this can also be used as an ornament. I plan on making several of these to have on hand for the holiday season.

Thank you for joining me today! I hope I have offered you some new ideas for your Christmas crafting projects. I will be back in December with one more round of projects using these fun holiday products so I’ll see you then!
