Sliding Window Die Focused Card with Cathy

Hey friends! Cathy here today and I’m excited to share an ocean themed card using the Sliding Window Dies!

To make this fun card, I started with the base panel. I cut a piece of 110lb white cardstock 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and inked the top half of the cardstock using a cloud stencil with Spun Sugar Distress ink. (I have several layers of ocean scene adhered to the window portion, so a heavier weight cardstock added extra stability). I then cut a post-it note in a wavy pattern, masked the bottom 1” of the panel and inked the ocean with Tumbled Glass, Salvaged Patina and Mermaid Lagoon Distress inks. I splattered a little water with a fan brush and once dry, masked the ocean and inked the bottom 1” with Antique Linen Distress ink. I then heat embossed a sentiment from the Mermaid Kisses Stamps with black embossing powder on the cloud portion approximately 1” from the top and right sides. With the inking complete, I die-cut the center of the panel with the Sliding Window Dies and the center of the top edge with the small semi-circle die included with these dies.

Next, I cut a piece of white cardstock 3 1/4" x 4 7/8” for the pull-out panel that opens the sliding window. I inked this piece with a cloud stencil using Spun Sugar Distress ink, die-cut a hole protector from pink cardstock and adhered it to the center of the top edge. I punched a hole through the center of the hole protector and tied off a piece of teal cording.

It was now time to construct the sliding window mechanism. I adhered the small flap of the sliding window to the bottom of the pink cloud panel. (Video instructions for this can be found in the product details on the Sunny website).

For the panel revealed under the window, I cut a piece of white cardstock 4 1/4” x 5 1/2", masked the bottom 1” of the cardstock and inked the ocean using the same Distress inks as before. I then inked the sand with Antique Linen Distress ink. I heat embossed a sentiment from the Mermaid Kisses Stamps with black embossing powder approximately 2” from the bottom of the cardstock. I adhered the sliding window panel to this bottom panel and then adhered the combined piece to an A2 card front.

For my ocean scene, I cut 3 pieces of white cardstock for the waves on the sliding panel (2 1/4" x 4 1/4" and 2 pieces 1 1/2" x 4 1/4"). I die-cut the top edge of each piece using the Catch A Wave Dies and inked the smaller pieces with Tumbled Glass Distress ink. I also splattered a little water on these pieces. On the larger piece, I masked the very bottom, inked the ocean and then inked the bottom sand portion. I overlapped/adhered the small wave pieces behind the large wave piece. I then adhered the waves to the sliding window on the card front making sure to only apply adhesive on the window portion itself so the whole scene slides upward.

To finish, I stamped all images on Neenah Classic Crest 80lb solar white cardstock and colored them with Copics. I fussy cut all images as I used portions of some images to create this scene.

Mermaid Kisses Card with Marine

Hello crafty friends, Marine here, I'm really happy to be back on the blog with this underwater card featuring the mermaids from Mermaid Kisses. Aren't they beautiful? I love them so much so I went for a slimline design to showcase the four of them.

I started off by stamping my images on 80lb Neenah solar white cardstock using an alcohol marker friendly black ink. I cut them using the matching dies, and colored everything using my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and Graph'it brush markers. I picked my favorite color palette for when I make underwater cards, which is pink, aqua, purple and blue, and because it's quite a bright and colorful combination, I went for a neutral brown to color their hair.

Here is a detailed list of the stamp sets I used: • Mermaid Kisses for most of the images • Fintastic Friends + Ocean View for seaweeds and rocks • Magical Mermaids for the water bubbles, small fish and seashells

Next I cut a Strathmore bristol smooth slimline panel to create my underwater background. On the lower part, I used a slimline hillside stencil along with antique linen and vintage photo oxide inks to make a sand border, I mixed some vintage photo oxide ink with water, and used a small brush to make splatters on my sand border. On the upper part, I applied, from top to bottom, wilted violet, blueprint sketch and peacock feathers oxide inks. I splattered water that I dried using a paper towel, mixed some black soot oxide ink with water to make more splatters, and then did the same with copic opaque white ink that I splattered all over my panel.

I white heat embossed my "Mermaid kisses, starfish wishes" greeting from Mermaid Kisses right in the middle of my panel, and attached all the images using 1mm and 2mm foam squares. As always, I added highlights and details using a white gel pen, especially on the mermaids' tails, and finished my card by applying white blizzard nuvo drops on the water bubbles to make them sparkle.

Sneak Peek: Introducing Beach Bus Stamps with New Release Video

Hello and welcome to the final day of our Summer Sneak Peek Week!  All this week I have been sharing cards showcasing our newest collection which is now in our store and available to purchase!

Card No. 1: Today I have one last stamp and die set to share which I'm super excited about called Beach Bus which features both the front view and side view of a VW-inspired bus with 4 mini critter passengers to mix and match with the animals from our Truckloads of Love Stamps and Balloon Rides Stamps. It also comes with a silhouette of three palm trees and a gorgeous Summer script word that mixes and matches with many words to build custom greetings.

For this card I started by cutting circle masks from masking paper using our Stitched Circle Small Dies and Stitched Circle Large Dies which were inked with mustard seed, carved pumpkin, picked raspberry, and seedless preserves for my background before spritzing with water. I stamped my greeting from the set in the center with a grouping of palm trees on either side using Versafine Onyx Black ink. On a separate piece of white cardstock, I colored it with swooshes and flicks of color using my Copic markers to match the sky's colors and give the appearance of the sunset being reflected in the waves. Lastly, I used our Tropical Trees Backdrop Dies to frame my scene with black cardstock, cutting extra rocky shore pieces to flip and use on the right side of my card, and to tuck behind my water line to ground the palm trees in the distance. The final piece was adding my hot pink beach bus to the center with some yellow highlights to the hood and roof to reflect the glowing sunset. I adore the retro vibe of this background and how well it compliments the vintage feel I was going for with these stamps!



Card No. 2: For this card featuring the Beach Bus Stamps, I created a day scene with palm trees using the trees from our Sending Sunshine Stamps and Tropical Scenes Stamps. I stacked some luggage on the top of the van using companion images from the set, along with a little sloth as my driver. The Tropical Scenes Dies include some coordinating wave dies which were perfect to create a little opening to tuck the surfboard from the set into the sand. To complete my scene I added three clouds from our Tropical Trees Backdrop Dies.



Card No. 3: Up next is a second take on a sunset background. This time I pulled up images on Google for beach sunsets as my inspiration and blended a variety of distress inks before spritzing my paper to help blend the water. In the end, I thought the sky looked a little bit like rainbow tie-dye which was perfect for this vintage-inspired card using our new Beach Bus Stamps. I kept the rest of my design fairly simple, using our Tropical Trees Backdrop Dies to add the silhouette of three palm trees, along with a stitched outer frame all cut from black cardstock. For my curved ground using the stitched hillside, I used a die from our Slimline Nature Border dies and then added the side view of a yellow beach bus to the center filled with critters from the set and our Balloon Rides Stamps. Lastly, I tucked a surfboard on the van's roof and stamped the greeting "happy summer" between the palm trees along the top, center of my card.

Card No. 4: I couldn't resist creating a slimline style penny slider card using our Beach Bus Stamps to drive by in the woodsy scene I created using the mountain border from our Country Scenes Stamps and the fir trees in the foreground from our Seasonal Trees Stamps. I colored my beach van and coordinating luggage in Barbie-inspired Hot Pink colors, adding the bear from our Balloon Rides Stamps and the fox and raccoon from our Truckloads of Love Stamps as passengers. Lastly, I added the greeting "enjoy summer" from the set, which I tucked between the trees and car before it slides forward.

Card No. 5: For my next road trip scene card, I used the mice and luggage from the Beach Bus Stamps to pile onto a retro aqua-colored van which I paired with the hilly tree border in the background from our Country Scenes Stamps. I added a trio of clouds to my sunny sky using our Tropical Trees Backdrop Dies and three little puffs of exhaust to the back of my beach bus using images from our Plane Awesome Stamps. Lastly, I pieced together my "driving by to say hi" greeting using two separate sentiments from our Truckloads of Love Stamps and Spring Showers Stamps.



Card No. 6: For my last Beach Bus card of the day, I created a beach scene using our Ocean View Stamps with the ocean waves washing up on the shore with the palm trees and beach umbrella. The border also includes a beach chair on the right which I hid with my van and leaning surfboard. On the left side of my scene under the palm trees, I added the girl drinking lemonade in a beach chair from our Kiddie Pool Stamps and paired her with the dog and vintage luggage from the Beach Bus stamps and a second puppy dog perched in the car from the Balloon Rides Stamps. For my background, I layered our Fluffy Cloud Border Dies which I had die-cut from masking material to ink with Tumbled Glass distress ink. I stippled many dots over the stamped line of my shore using a white gel pen to create the look of frothy incoming waves.

Sneak Peek Week: Introducing Mermaid Kisses Stamps & Dies

Hello and welcome to Day 3 of our Summer Sneak Peek Week!  All this week I will be sharing cards showcasing our newest collection which will be available for purchase this Friday!

Card No. 1: Today I am showcasing cards using our adorable new Mermaid Kisses Stamps which feature four unique mermaids, four punny greetings, several fish, and new coral & seaweed to be used on their own or to mix and match with all our other ocean-themed stamp sets. For this card, I used three of the mermaids from the set which I colored with Copic markers to appear as if they have blue iridescent fins with pink highlights. I also paired the seashell and kelp from this set with the other seashells, oversized rock, and plants from our Fintastic Friends Stamps and Magical Mermaids Stamps to populate the ocean floor of my little scene. I completed my card by stamping bubbles in the background both around the fish and mermaids and just throughout the scene to create a subtle tone-on-tone print.

Card No. 2: Up next is another ocean scene card, this time with a portrait orientation. For this Mermaid Kisses card, I added the coral and seaweed groupings from our Ocean View Stamps, mixing in some of the coral from the new Mermaid Kisses set to tie them together. I added a sandy sea floor using our Slimline Nature Border Dies and added one of the little starfish from our Magical Mermaids Stamps. This time I added some bubbles to hide a couple ink smudges I accidentally had in my background. I finished my card by stamping the "swimming by to say hi" greeting from the set onto our Brilliant Banner 2 Dies which I inked in a pink hue to match the coral in my scene.

Card No. 3: Up next is a bright and happy card which came together really quickly and I just love how it turned out! I lined up three of the same mermaids in the pose where she is lying on her belly from our new Mermaid Kisses Stamps. This card isn't a scene card like the first two were, but I wanted to give the feeling that they are lined up together on the shore. I started by piecing together my card panel background using a yellow sunburst pattern from Classic Sunburst Paper for my sky and two prints from our Summer Splash Paper for my ocean and beach. To add interest between the layers, I added a stitched edge to the beach layer using our Ribbon & Lace Border Dies. After the layers were adhered together, I then ran the entire card panel through my die-cutting machine using the largest label die from our new Limitless Labels 1 Dies. When I was done, I inked up the edges of the label to make them stand out against the background and then cut another label from craft foam to help pop up my label and make it stand out even more. Once it was die-cut, the bottom portion of the label with the starfish print gave me a natural place to heat-emboss a sentiment from the set. I added my mermaids all in a row to the center of my card, alternating starfish barrettes and a crown for the middle mermaid.

Card No. 4: Next up is a Little Mermaid-inspired card with the sitting mermaid from our new Mermaid Kisses Stamps perched on the shore using the palm trees and island from our Tropical Scenes Stamps. To set the scene around them I inked up a cloudy sky using our Fluffy Cloud Border Dies together with masking material. For my ocean, I inked up a strip of white cardstock with Tumbled Glass distress ink and then used my Copic markers in similar tones to draw in soft waves. The little fish popping out of the water comes with the Mermaid Kisses Stamps and I used the coordinating dies from our Tropical Scenes Dies to create an opening for him to emerge from the waves. I added the crab from our Best Fishes Stamps and some die-cut seagulls to my sky using a die from the Tropical Trees Backdrop Dies. Lastly, I stamped a punny greeting from the set and added a stitched scalloped edge to the bottom of my card using the slimline-style Ribbon & Lace Border Dies.

Card No. 5: For this card, I started by inking a super vibrant ombre background by applying my mini distress ink cubes in Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon, Salty Ocean, and Prize Ribbon directly to my white cardstock. I then spritzed it heavily with water to help the inks blend together a little bit better and give the look of bubbles in my background. I had already colored all my images from our Mermaid Kisses Stamps and the sea floor border from our Tropical Scenes Stamps, however, I just couldn't get past the feeling that my images weren't looking great on this background. They just felt so much like flat cutouts. That's when I had the bright idea to color around my images with my Copics to help them blend in with the colors in my background. It took a little extra time, but the difference was huge! It made this card go from being something I wasn't feeling very excited about to becoming one of my favorites. I heat embossed the "mermaid kisses, starfish wishes" greeting in white embossing powder in the center of my scene which really pops against the dark background and I added a couple extra small starfish from our Magical Mermaids Stamps.

Card No. 6: For this card, I started by creating my patchwork background by using the 1.5" Stitched Square Dies together with scraps I had from our Summer Splash Paper, Dots & Stripes Pastels Paper, Gingham Pastels Paper, Polka-Dot Parade Paper, Classic Sunburst Paper, and Spring Fling Paper packs. To give the background a cohesive feel, I chose an ocean-inspired analogous color scheme in cool blue, aqua, and green tones. I then cut an oval from heavy-weight vellum using our Stitched Oval 2 Dies. By using the heavier vellum I was able to heat emboss the greeting from our new Mermaid Kisses Stamps without having to worry so much about it curling with the heat. I completed the card by adding a mermaid on either side of the greeting with the starfish from the new set.
