Sneak Peek: Captivating Camellias, Inside Greetings Birthday & Sympathy

Hello and welcome to the final day of our Spring Peek Week!  All this week I have been showcasing cards using our newest collection which is now available for purchase. Before you run off and shop though, make sure to check out our our last peek at three new stamp sets below, including two brand new inside greetings sentiment sets and a video showing a closer look at everything.

Card No. 1: Today's stamp set I'm showcasing is called Captivating Camellias which includes 2 blossoms, a leaf and a Mother's Day greeting.

For my first card of the day created a bold, elegant card where I mounted four 4" x 3/4" strips of black cardstock onto a white 4" x 5.25" panel before adhering them both to a metallic gold card base. For my "hello" word sentiment I used a die from our Slimline Scalloped Frame Dies. It's a very clean and simple, but turned out to be one of my personal favorites.

Card No. 2:  For my next card I started by die-cutting the stitched mat for the center using our Slimline Scalloped Frame Dies set. This die is much longer, but I was able to customize the length by flipping it around after the first cut, feeling where the stitching of the die locked into place with my previous cut and then running it through my die-cutting machine a second time.  I then stamped a sentiment from our new Inside Greetings Birthday Stamps and assembled my pre-stamped Captivating Camellias flowers onto my panel, trimming off were they extended beyond my stitched mat.

My next step was to add a little temporary adhesive and attach my panel to the center of my card front so that I could then put the card in my MISTI stamp positioning tool and use the coordinating 1c, 2c & 3b images from the set to align the stamps one by one before removing the panel and stamping them with Altenew Limestone ink. For a couple of my flower images with the overlapping leaves I cut some quick masks to cover the flower so that it would still appear the leaves were behind the focal point flowers when I stamped them. After a couple images were stamped, I could return the panel to the center, reposition my next set of stamps and then repeat the process until my background was complete. My last step was to adhere the panel to my card using foam tape to make color vs. b&w the effect a bit more dramatic.

Card No. 3:  For my next project featuring the Captivating Camellia Stamps, I wanted to go more soft and sweet for a card using our new Inside Greetings Sympathy Stamps. Cards like this are always tough to create and I find I'm often at a loss for what to write inside them, but I'm hoping this stamp set might help for those moments when I feel like they are no words.

My wood embossed background was created using our Woodgrain Embossing Folder. I originally had just the white background, but I had mounted my focal point images a wee bit higher than I wanted and the card was feeling a bit top heavy to me so I cut off the bottom, added a small Ric Rac Border and a polka-dot print to match the flowers with our Background Basics Stamps. For the sentiment, I die-cut a frame using our Stitched Circle Small Dies and Stitched Circle Large Dies. I then stamped my sentiment onto vellum using VersaFine Onyx Black Ink and heat embossed it with Hero Arts Ultra Fine Embossing Powder before die-cutting it out using the outer circle die. This gave me a thin space to add adhesive to where it wouldn't be seen behind my pink circle frame. A few scattered Mirror Droplets were the perfect finishing touch.

Card No. 4:  Up next I used another sentiment for our Inside Greetings Sympathy Stamps. For this card I die-cut the outer frame with our Botanical Backdrop dies. I then layered it with our Fancy Frames Rectangle Dies to hold my stamped greeting, backing them with two different colored panels for some contrast. The background panels were created by inking them with PinkFresh Meadow Ink and Gina K. Ocean Mist (and then splattered with a little watered down Gina K. Blue Lagoon and an old toothbrush). A few shiny green pieces of confetti from our Iridescent Pastel Confetti mix complimented the colors perfectly.

Card No. 5:  This card combines our new Layered Basket Stamps with our Captivating Camellias Stamps. Aren't they pretty together? Love having another way to display flowers!  For my background I created a lacy scalloped panel using our Frilly Frames Eyelet Lace dies which I backed with a piece of pale pink cardstock and mounted onto a piece of patterned paper from our Classic Gingham Paper pack. For my greeting I heat embossed the word "happy" from our Happy Thoughts Stamps and paired it with the "birthday" word die from our Blooming Petals Frame Dies.

Every time I cut down our 6x6 Paper to fit my A2 sized card, I'm left with an extra 1/2" strip so I have a Ziploc baggie I save them in for future use. However, this time I actually completed the inside of my card (such a special day for me) so I was able to use it right away to tie the outside of my card together with the inside, using our new Inside Greetings Birthday Stamps.

Card No. 6: While my last card was a bit more shabby chic, this card design which also features the Captivating Camellias Stamps with Layered Basket Stamps is clean and simple. This time I cut that same pale pink cardstock out into a banner shape using our Slimline Pennant Dies. For my sentiment strip, I used the smallest pennant from that same die set to stamp my greeting, cutting off the ends and just using it as a stitched strip. I love how long this die is to give me maximum flexibility. I found myself using it for many, many of my cards this week. My last touch were two little White Pearls to give the appearance they are holding my strip in place almost like two pearl topped straight pins.

Here are just a few flower, leaf and Basket combinations I experimented with trying for the most part to use ink colors we carry in our store (linked below):

Sunny Studio Stamps Layered Basket & Captivating Camellias Floral Flower Layering Examples

I frequently am asked which ink colors I used for my layered images.  While I think there are so many great options out there, these are the colors I used today for my stamped images from light to dark:

Basket 1
Hero Arts Soft Sand
Gina K. Sandy Beach
Concord & 9th Wheat or Gina K. Kraft
Hero Arts Cup O' Joe

Basket 2
Skipped Lightest Layer
Hero Arts Soft Sand
Memories Soft Sand or Gina K. Sandy Beach
Memories Sand

Basket 3
(card no. 5)
Hero Arts Soft Sand
Gina K. Sandy Beach
Memories Sand
MFT Kraft

To help you line up our layered stamps like a pro I've created a special layering guide (you can click on the photo below to view it larger).  The guide shows the stamps starting with the lightest ink color, working towards the darkest, but sometimes I find it easier to start backwards. They both work depending on what your preference is.  The black outline indicates where that layer touches the previously stamped layer.  :)

Sneak Peek: Introducing Garden Fairy & Feeling Froggy Stamps

Hello and welcome to day 4 of our Spring Peek Week!  All this week I have been showcasing cards using our newest collection which will be available for purchase tomorrow, January 8th.

Card No. 1: My first card of the day I used our new Garden Fairy Stamps. This set features 4 unique fairies, 3 butterflies, a new toadstool house, 2 sets of bluebell flowers, a snail, a myriad of sparkly pixie dust and 3 coordinating punny greetings.

I found this background in my stash which I created awhile back and never got around to using. I can't remember for sure which products I specifically used, but you could recreate a similar look by cutting masks using our Fluffy Cloud Border Dies & Slimline Nature Border Dies. I ran the panel through my die-cutting machine using the stitching border along the bottom edge from our Slimline Basic Border dies, along with a ric-rac edge.

For my rainbow border I blended Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron and Peacock Feathers distress inks. This is yet another strip I had left over from a previous card. I often will save any portions like this that I cut off, hoping I can use them for a future project to save myself a little time. LOVE challenging myself to use scraps on my desk. I then stamped sparkles to match around my faires and added some Ranger Stardust Stickles liquid glitter to their wings.Sunny Studio Fairies in the Clouds Magical Birthday Card (using Garden Fairy Stamps & Ric Rac Border Dies)

Card No. 2:  I had envisioned this card when I designed this stamp set and I'm so happy the card turned out the way I had pictured (since it doesn't always work out that way). I combined the little lanterns from the Garden Fairy Stamps with the string of lights from our Scenic Route Stamps

To create the glowing effect. I started by inking some Squeezed Lemonade distress ink onto my white cardstock panel using a small foam finger dauber roughly where I planned to put my lights, going back and forth with holding up the die-cuts as I worked for placement. I then inked in some Salty Ocean Distress ink around them, overlapping the colors a little bit but trying to be careful to not blend so much that the glow turned more green than yellow. As I worked towards the outside edges, I blended in some darker Blueprint Sketch and Chipped Sapphire Distress inks. I then die-cut my panel using the stitched mat from our Frilly Frames Retro Petals Dies

I kept the rest of my card fairly simple to keep the focus on the lanterns, heat embossing my sentiments using VersaMark ink and Hero Arts White Detail Embossing Powder. For the pixie dust on this card I added some small dots using a Sharpie White Extra Fine Point Paint Pen.

Card No. 3: Up next is a card showcasing the two bluebell flowers in the Garden Fairy set. I found yet another panel with the stitched Fluffy Cloud Dies in my stash. I remember this background was actually created for THIS card a couple years ago, but I messed up on the the horizontal panel when I accidentally grabbed the cloud cutout that comes with the set and die-cut a big cloud shaped hole in my panel requiring me to start over. Rather than toss it though I decided to trim it down and save it for a future project when I could use it for a vertical card and hide the bottom. It took me awhile to find the perfect application, but it just goes to show once again that almost every crafty "mistake" can be rescued.

I inked it up the cloud panel with Spun Sugar distress ink and layered it with some grassy borders (also leftover) which I colored with Copic markers and die-cut using the grass border from our Sunny Sentiment Dies. A banner from our Banner Basics Stamps colored with Shaded Lilac Distress ink and fussy cut was the perfect way to frame my fairy and add my sentiment to this card.
Sunny Studio Fairy with Bluebell Flowers Card (using Garden Fairy Stamps, Banner Basics Stamps, Sunny Sentiments Dies & Fluffy Cloud Stitched Dies)

Card No. 4: For this card I wanted to highlight the new Slimline Pennant Dies in all their slimline glory. This is the largest of the pennants from the die set measuring 3-1/2" wide x 8.5" high, which I paired with a scalloped edge from our Fishtail Banner II Dies and mounted onto a piece of pink Bazzill swiss dot cardstock. I took inspiration of the ''sweet wishes" phase included with the Garden Fairy Stamps and decided to combine it with the "wishes" word die from our Layered Snowflake Frame Die set. I used the stitched trail from the Country Scenes Stamps for my butterflies and added a swirl of sparkles using the mini stamps from the Garden Fairy set.

Sunny Studio: Butterflies & Fairies Card (using Garden Fairy Stamps, Slimline Pennant Dies, Fishtail Banner II Dies & Sunny Sentiments)

Card No. 5: For my next card I wanted to feature the newest toadstool house in our mushroom house line-up, pairing it with the mountain range and fir tree border from our new Country Scenes Stamps. The little clouds from our Comic Strip Everyday Dies are the perfect size to compliment this scene.

I added a stitched hillside using our Slimline Nature Border dies and repeatedly stamped the little random tufts of grass that come with the Country Scenes set.
My punny thank you sentiment from the Garden Fairy set was stamped onto two stacked oval mats using the dies from our Stitched Oval Dies and Fancy Frames Oval Dies.

Card No. 6:  My last Garden Fairy card for the day uses many of the same components found on my previous card, but this card uses the trees and hilly border from Country Scenes for my background and features the cute fairy sitting on a daisy with the snail. Love them!  I once again added a stitched hillside using our Slimline Nature Border Dies, but this time I added some flicks of grass using my Copic Marker.
Sunny Studio Fairy Magical Day Card (using Garden Fairy Stamps, Country Scenes Stamps & Slimline Nature Border Dies)

Card No. 7: Up next is a little cutie called Feeling Froggy that I can't help but smile at when I see them looking back at me with their big eyes. It's a mini 2x3 stamp set that comes with the frog sitting on a lily pad, a cute dragonfly, two little house flies, and two punny greetings.

For this card I paired them with the lotus flower / lily pads, stitched trail and cattail pond border from our Country Scenes Stamps and the larger sized lily pad, lotus flower & large water ring from our older Froggy Friends Stamps. I added a few other water marks around the other lily pads using stamps from Tropical Scenes. A thin strip of green gingham paper from our Gingham Pastels Paper pack finished off my card.
Sunny Studio Punny Frogs in Pond Card (using Feeling Froggy Stamps, Country Scenes Stamps & Classic Gingham Paper)

Card No. 8:  Up next is a card combining our newest Feeling Froggy frog, fly and dragonfly with the trimmer Froggy Friends and stamped a punny greeting from that set onto the thinnest banner from our Slimline Pennant Dies.

My polka-dot background is once again another stamped panel I had created years ago when our Background Basics Stamps debuted that I ended up trading out for another color so when I saw it in my stack of scraps I knew it would be the perfect compliment to these frogs. I added stitching to the edges using our Slimline Basic Border dies and a thin zig zag edge using our Ric Rac Border dies

Sunny Studio Punny Frog Card (using Feeling Froggy, Froggy Friends, Background Basics Stamps, Slimline Pennant Dies & Slimline Basic Border Dies)

Card No. 9: My last card of the day is a Valentine's Day take on the Feeling Froggy set, using the pond border and extra cattails from our Country Scenes Stamps and a big over-sized heart colored with Picked Raspberry Distress ink using our Stitched Heart dies.

I colored my water to have the appearance of ripples by flicking on long strokes with various colors of Copic Markers, not attempting to blend them. I added a scalloped edge to the bottom of my card using our new Slimline Pennant Dies which matches the same edge found on our previously released Frilly Frames Eyelet Lace Dies. My final touches included a heat embossed sentiment from Froggy Friends and a scattering of smaller hearts from our Basic Mini Shape II Dies and Basic Mini Shape 3 Dies which were coated with Glossy Accents by Ranger.Sunny Studio Punny Frogs in Pond Love Themed Card (using Feeling Froggy Stamps, Froggy Friends, Country Scenes Stamps & Stitched Heart Dies)

That wraps up today's sneak peeks. I'm so happy you spent this time with me today. I read all your comments and they mean so much!  I'd love to give a $50 gift code to one lucky winner using the rafflecopter below.  Make sure to keep checking back all this week for more peeks & prizes. The contests run through Saturday, January 9th at Midnight PST with winners announced here on Sunday, January 10th. :)
