Make A Wish & Birthday Balloon Cards by Mendi

Hello and welcome! We are celebrating Sunny Studio's 10th Birthday all this week, so this is Mendi here today popping in to share some cute girlie pastel birthday cards using our Make A Wish Stamps.

Sunny Studio Colorful Pastel Birthday Cake Cards using Make A Wish & Birthday Balloon Clear Craft Stamps & Metal Cutting Dies

First, I have a card combining the kids from the Kiddie Pool Stamps, the birthday cake from the Make A Wish Stamps, and the layered balloons from our Birthday Balloon Stamps. It's been a while since I've played with these balloons, and I fell in love with them all over again! I taped sewing threads to the back of each one and knotted them behind the kids. For my background, I picked up colors to match the balloons using various scraps from our pastel paper packs (linked below). Whenever I cut an A2 card base, I'm always left with extra patterned paper strips that I save for projects like my two cards today. I die-cut them into 5/8" wide stitched strips using the smallest pennant die from our Slimline Pennant Dies. I worked with 3" long sections, cutting them in half to apply 1.5" on each side before topping the center with the white cardstock stitched panel die-cut using our Slimline Scalloped Frame Dies.

My second card uses many of the same leftover scraps from our Flirty Flowers Paper and Dots & Stripes Pastels Paper packs, but this time, I die-cut them into 2.25" wide circles using our Stitched Circle Large Dies. I then used a clear ruler to center them and line them up as I took turns adhering them to my card base with liquid adhesive. I added a yellow striped strip along the bottom of my card and then topped it with a scalloped edge from our Eyelet Lace Border Dies. Lastly, I stamped the sentiment and filled the circles with the birthday cake and slices of cake from our Make A Wish Stamps. I love these colors together!

Balloon Numbers Card with Tina

Hi crafty friends, Tina here and as soon as I saw the Balloon Numbers stamp and die set, I knew I wanted to make a fairytale card for a sweet little girl that will be celebrating her third birthday this month! She loves all kinds of animals and that became the theme of this project.

Sunny Studio Stamps: Balloon Numbers Focused Birthday Card by Tina Henkens (featuring Frilly Frame Dies, Woodgrain Embossing Folder, Stitched Oval 2 Dies, Garden Fairy, Garden Critters, Make A Wish, A Bird's Life)

To start, I die cut a panel from white card stock with the outer die from the Frilly Frames Stripes die. I created a ‘wood’ look by dry embossing this piece with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder. Next, I turned this panel into a frame by using the second largest die from Stitched Ovals 2. I kept the inside oval for another project and selected a teal striped background from the Striped Silly pack. I love how this instantly gives you a bold backdrop.

Then it was time to browse through my stamps, selecting all the elements I wanted for my birthday scene. I went with a sweet fairy (Garden Fairy), several cute Garden Critters, two adorable birds with branch (A Bird’s Life), a darling duck (Puddle Jumpers), and the all-important cake (Make A Wish) and number 3 from the Balloon Numbers stamp and die set!

All the coloring was done with my trusty Copic markers and white gel pen details made the images pop even more.

To assemble the card, I glued the tree to the back of the wooden frame before adhering the striped panel. Next, I placed the cake at the bottom of the frame and added critters to the left and right. The sweet fairy is flying through the sky, holding the balloon number with a little piece of pink thread from my sewing box. Lastly, I positioned the two birdies near the branch. This whole scene was glued to a white card base. No need for a sentiment since ‘the birthday party with the pink 3’ was our centerpiece! Adding a few Champagne clear Jewels finishes this sweet project.

I can’t wait to see all these balloon numbers featured in your projects! Thank you for visiting the blog and happy crafting!

Designer's Choice: Holiday Hugs Card with Tina

Hello crafters, it’s Tina and today I am mixing and matching several sets for this designer’s choice blog post. The darling bear from Holiday Hugs is perfect for all your winter cards but I wanted to see how I could make him the focal point of a Spring birthday card!

Sunny Studio Stamps: Holiday Hugs Birthday Card by Tina Henkens (featuring Make A Wish, Frilly Frame Dies, Quilted Hearts Dies, Stitched Arch Dies, Brilliant Banner Dies, Happy Thoughts)

To achieve this look, I had to mask off his scarf with some Post-it tape while I was stamping. It went really well and next I used the matching dies to cut him out. I love the special die for the arms! To remove the scarf with more precision or make it easier to do for mass production, here are detailed steps to achieve this look:

  1. Stamp the bear onto masking material and cut out the scarf with scissors, leaving a thin shadow for a little wiggle room.
  2. Then, stamp a sheet of paper with the bear image using your Misti tool.
  3. Cut a sheet of cardstock the same size as the paper used in Step 2. Using a lightbox or a well-lit window, position the blank sheet of cardstock over that stamped image and position your hand-cut mask on the cardstock where that scarf will stamp.
  4. Put the blank cardstock with the scarf mask in place back into your Misti, ink up your image, and stamp it onto the cardstock with the mask in place.
  5. Remove the mask and use a black fine-tip marker (one that will work with your desired coloring medium) to sketch the missing sides of the bear. A Memento marker or Copic Multiliner pen are both excellent choices.
  6. Use scissors to trim down the die-cut bear to account for the missing scarf.

Whilst browsing through my stash I selected a few birthday related stamps like the big cake (Make A Wish), the gift (Holiday Hugs), the bouquet (Big Bunny) and the letters (Bighearted Bears). All these items were colored with alcohol markers in fun Spring colors.

My card base is an A2 size and made from white heavy weight card stock. For the pink gingham frame I used a Joyful Holiday paper, which was cut with the outer of the Frilly Frames Eyelet Lace dies and the largest of the Stitched Arched Dies.

Since the coloring was so bright, I opted for a white backdrop. The upper part is dry embossed with the Quilted Hearts folder, whilst the lower part was run through the Lots Of Dots folder (but that is difficult to see in the pictures). I added foam tape to the gingham frame and lower part of the background and adhered all the elements to my card base. Next, I added the cute bear and all his birthday accessories!

I love how the Brilliant Banner 2 Die perfectly fits on top of the arched frame. The combined sentiment was selected from the Happy Thoughts set and stamped in Versafine Onyx Black Ink. For some bling, I adhered a few Crystal Clear Jewels which are one of my favorites.

I hope you got inspired to experiment with stamp masking, it’s such a fun technique! Thank you for joining me and happy crafting!
