Summer Greenery Rainbow Cards with Mendi

Hello and welcome! This is Mendi here today, popping in to share a bright and happy rainbow card set featuring the tropical leaves from our Summery Greenery Dies!

For my first card showcasing the Summery Greenery Dies, I started by inking a cardstock panel with Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Salty Ocean, and Wilted Violet Distress inks. Rather than a straight rainbow, I layered patches of color adjacent to each other on the color wheel and then spritzed them with water to help them blend a tiny bit more and to get the look of some of the reactive drops. I then arranged all the tropical leaves cut from white cardstock over the top, leaving them plain for a graphic look and to keep the focus on all the wonderful embossed details these dies provide. 

I then inked up a small scrap of white cardstock with a similar blend of inks where I wanted my sentiment to go. I then stamped my "Happy Birthday" greeting from our Big Bold Greetings Stamps using VersaFine Onyx Black Ink, and heating-embossing it with Clear Embossing Powder. Lastly, I used the Big Bold Greetings Dies to cut out a shadow around my greeting and glued another strip of cardstock behind, which had been covered with adhesive to give me a sticky surface to pop the negative portions back in place. Having these sections in place kept my greeting from looking too busy with the white parts of the leaves that were peeking through the openings.

For my second colorful card using the Summery Greenery Dies, I started by die-cutting the tropical leaves from white cardstock. Then I inked each one using a different bright color of distress ink, alternating between Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers, and Wilted Violet. To add a little interest, I inked the left side of each leaf with a heavier hand and kept the right side lighter to give the appearance of a light source on the right. I then die-cut a stitched strip from black cardstock using the smallest pennant from our Slimline Pennant Dies (elongating it by hanging it off the cutting plate and running it through my machine a second time). Lastly, I heat-embossed the sentiment "wishing you a happy retirement" from our Happy Thoughts Stamps using White Embossing Powder with VersaMark Ink.

Beach Bus Card with Hanh

Hello Crafty Friends! This is Hanh on the Sunny Studio Stamps blog today with a fun card to mark the official start of summer! If people build sandcastles at the beach, then what do mice build at the beach? They build "sandmice", of course! My card features the adorable images from the Beach Bus, Sealiously Sweet, Harvest Mice and Merry Mice sets. 

I stamped the images from the Beach Bus Stamps, Sealiously Sweet Stamps, Harvest Mice Stamps and Merry Mice Stamps sets onto a piece of Neenah Solar White 110 lb cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and used the coordinating Beach Bus Dies, Sealiously Sweet Dies, Harvest Mice Dies, and Merry Mice Dies to die cut them out. I also used the Tropical Trees Backdrop Dies to die cut a piece of Neenah cardstock for the scene. I colored them with Copic markers and highlighted them with a white gel pen.

For the background, I used the Slimline Nature Borders Dies to die cut a piece of clear acetate to make my own cloud stencil. I separated the pieces that I die cut with the Tropical Trees Backdrop Dies. I masked off the bottom half of the large panel. I ink blended a cloudy background with my homemade stencil and some Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink. Then, I masked off the cloudy top half of the panel as well as the bottom portion of the panel so as to only expose about a 1/2" strip in the middle of the panel. I inked this strip of the panel with Salty Ocean Distress Oxide ink. Once the panel was dry, I colored in the sand with Copic markers. I adhered the frame of the backdrop panel to a piece of white cardstock (4.25" x 5.5"). I placed the remaining two pieces into the frame like a puzzle.

For the sentiment, I stamped the "Summer" sentiment from the Beach Bus stamps set with Versamark Watermark ink onto a piece of black cardstock and heat embossed with Detail White Embossing Powder. I used the coordinating Beach Bus Dies to die cut it out. Then I stamped the sub-sentiments "sending" and "vibes" directly onto the panel with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. 

I adhered the tree, bus and surfboard to the front of the inked panel with liquid adhesive. The sentiment, mice, sandmouse and ball were adhered onto the panel with foam tape for a bit of dimension and interest. Finally, I adhered the panel to a white A2 card base (4.25" x 5.5").

Watering Can Rainbow Butterfly Cards with Mendi

Hello and welcome! This is Mendi. I am sharing some fun rainbow butterfly cards using the butterflies from our Watering Can Stamps and Dies. This fantastic set comes with a layering watering can that perfectly complements so many of our floral layering stamps like I shared yesterday, but today, I want to focus on the two little bonus butterflies for this set of cards.

Up first is a classic grid-style card. I started by die-cutting the largest scalloped square from black cardstock using our Scalloped Square 2 Small Dies. I then cut and scored a 4.25 x 4.25 square card base, which I adhered to and centered on the back. For the front, I die-cut a 4" square from white cardstock to layer over the top using our Stitched Square Dies to frame my butterflies. 

I stamped 9 individual butterflies in a rainbow of colors. To add a little interest, I inked up the solid layer of each butterfly by inking the stamp with a finger dauber (rather than the ink pad directly) and my Misti tool. I did this several times for each butterfly, building the color darker near the wing tips and lighter near the center. I then arranged them onto my card and popped each one up with some thin Crafty Foam Tape by Scrapbook Adhesives. Given the butterfly's width is greater than its height, I had extra room in my square grid to fit a greeting between the second and third rows so I heat embossed the greeting "Fluttering by to Say Hi!" from our Spring Showers Stamps, which I stamped onto the largest pennant strip from our Notebook Photo Corners Dies. I love the clean graphic feel of this card and how it turned out!

This time, rather than stamping each butterfly in a single bright color to form my rainbow, I stamped each butterfly to have a blended rainbow on their wings. I achieved this cool look by once again applying the ink to my stamp using a foam finger dauber with the help of a Misti tool. I took turns layering each color and stamping them 2 to 4 times each until I had the coverage and brilliance I desired before switching to the next ink color. When I was done, then I could layer the black layer over the top. I am so smitten with how gorgeous they look for just a few extra steps with the finger dauber!

For my card frame, I used the stitched rectangle die from our Frilly Frames Retro Petals Dies and then embossed the center portion with our Frilly Frames Hexagon Dies by using an embossing mat instead of a cutting plate. I love how all the Frilly Frames dies can mix and match and be used for a variety of techniques! 

For my sentiment strip, I die-cut a rainbow ombre patterned paper from our Spring Fling Paper pack using the smallest stitched pennant from our Slimline Pennant Dies. It wasn't quite long enough so I lengthened it by hanging part of the die off of my cutting pad and running it through a second time. However, you could also just cut it in two parts and hide the seam behind one of the butterflies. For my greeting, I stamped "Let Your Dreams" using our Plane Awesome Stamps and spelled "soar" using our Hayley Lowercase Alphabet Dies. To jazz it up, I then applied some Glossy Accents over the top of each letter and set it aside to dry.

My Otter Half Cards with Mendi

Hello and welcome! This is Mendi here today, popping in to share some otter-themed cards for summer using our My Otter Half Stamps.

For my first card, I stamped and masked off the kelp and underwater plants from our Ocean View Stamps, Best Fishes Stamps, and Fintastic Friends Stamps so they were all on a single layer along the bottom of my card. I used the large clear stamp in my positioning tool to mirror the rock and plant image from the Ocean View stamps so that the tall portions of the plant could be on the outer edges for both sides of my card. I then layered a piece of aqua colored vellum which I die-cut along the top using our Slimline Nature Border Dies. I happened to have this vellum in my stash, but I also found some colorful assortments on Amazon HERE, HERE, and HERE.

The two adorable otters from our My Otter Half Stamps take center stage, with half of their bodies under the water and half above. I didn't want to mess with spray adhesive, so I used my sewing machine to stitch the vellum in place. Sadly, my machine has issues, so don't look too closely. I inked up some clouds to match the turquoise water using Peacock Feathers distress ink and our Fluffy Cloud Border Dies cut from masking material. I completed my card by stamping one of the punny sentiments from the set on a speech bubble from our Comic Strip Speech Bubbles Dies and adding three tiny hearts from our Basic Mini Shape 2 Dies.

For my second card, I started my scene by layering the mountains and trees from our Spring Scenes Stamps along the top of my card and then tucked in a grassy border using our Mini Grass Border Dies. For my lake, I inked up my cardstock panel with Salty Ocean, Mermaid Lagoon, and Prize Ribbon Distress Inks before drawing loose ripples with my B16 Copic Marker. For my family of otters from the My Otter Half Stamps, I carefully cut the two snuggling otter apart so that I could tuck them around the mama otter holding the baby otter to look like a family of four. I then stamped the punny phrase "We Need Each Otter" onto our Brilliant Banner 2 Dies which I die-cut from a green print from the Classic Sunburst Paper pack.
