Sneak Peek: Candy Shoppe, Cupcake Shape & Chloe Alphabet Dies

Hello and welcome to day 3 of our Summer Peek Week!  All this week I am showcasing cards using our newest collection which will be available for purchase on Friday, April 16th.

For today's new products I'm sharing our sweet new Candy Shoppe Stamps & die set, a standalone Cupcake Shape Die and a playful new Chloe Alphabet die set. Let's dig right in!

Card No. 1: My first card features a classic gumball machine image from our new Candy Shoppe Stamps, together with a little hamster I will be sharing more of tomorrow. To create my pile of gumballs, I stamped four or five gumballs onto masking material, fussy cut them out and then moved them around as I stamped additional layers. It may look more time consuming than it actually was as I think the whole process took me about 15 minutes to stamp out. Then I colored them to match the gum in my gumball machine using my Copic Markers and fussy cut them with my scissors along the top edge. As a last little detail I gave the gumballs and glass some quick shine with my Sharpie extra fine point white paint pen.

For the rest of my card, I used a 4.25" x 4.25" aqua striped print from our Striped Silly Paper pack, a polka-dot print along the bottom from our Rainbow Bright Paper pack and a little belt of sorts between the two using our Slimline Pennant Dies. To frame my focal point and to have a place to add my punny greeting, I die-cut a circle from white cardstock using our Stitched Circle Large Dies.

Card No. 2: I wanted a fun way to "display" and show off many of the fun candies in the Candy Shoppe set so I created a sweet shop window display with awning for my next card. To achieve this look, I started by cutting my store window using our Comic Strip Everyday Dies and then bleeding off the top of my card, trimming off the one interior divider that was going to show with my scissors. I then used the oval handle die from our Sweet Treats Bag Dies to cut white and pink print paper using our Gingham Pastels Paper pack. I messed up my original calculations though thinking I had space for 11 pieces. In hindsight I would have used a centering ruler to put a white piece in the center and bled pink pieces off both sides, trimming off the excess, but mine were already glued down tight so I just went with it.  ;)

To fill the space below my window, I used a coordinating striped print from our Sleek Stripes Paper pack and heat embossed the words "birthday wishes" using our Happy Thoughts Stamps. The Candy Shoppe set comes with the script word "sweet" which I stamped using Hero Arts Ultra Pink Ink and then die-cut using the coordinating Candy Shoppe Dies

Card No. 3: My next card showcases the new
Swirl Candy Confetti mix (that will be new in our shop on Friday) for a fun shaker card. To create my shaker window I started by trimming a yellow polka-dot paper from our Dots & Striped Pastels Paper pack and then die-cut an opening using our Stitched Circle Small Dies. I then used those same circle dies together with our Scalloped Circle Mat 3 dies to create a little frame for my shaker window.

The candy sticks from the set were purposefully designed a bit ambiguous so you can color them to look like hand twisted candy & peppermint sticks as shown in my previous card or like licorice vines like I did here.  For my previous card I also passed on all the cute little faces from the set, but for this one I embraced the faces and added them any of the candy pieces I could fit them on.

Card No. 4: Up next is a card that spotlights the cute little cotton candy stamps from the Candy Shoppe set. It's hard to tell from the stamp set illustration shared below, but the face portion is actually a separate stamp image that pops out so if you don't like your inanimate objects to have personalities you can completely forgo that option. To turn mine into a girl and boy, I used a little bow from our new Looking Sharp Stamps which I will be sharing more of on Friday.

For this card I was trying to conjure up the feeling of a state fair or a circus so I borrowed the little banner from our Balloon Rides Stamps and cut my cloud background using Spring Fling Paper pack and Slimline Pennant Dies. For the white pennant mat below, I used the largest pennant die from that same set and then trimmed it down with my paper trimmer on each side and added stitching on each side to match the others using our Slimline Basic Border dies. For my background I used a sky blue check from our Gingham Pastels Paper pack and added a scalloped edge along the bottom using those same Slimline Basic Border dies.

Card No. 5: Our Rainbow Bright Paper pack feels like it was custom made to compliment these Candy Shoppe Stamps. The colorful papers make it so easy to create quick and simple cards that are anything, but boring. For this card I paired our Fancy Frames Rectangle Dies together with our new Stitched Rectangle Dies to frame my red gumball machine. I then used the little stitched pennant from the stitched rectangles set to stamp my "I love you to pieces" punny greeting using Versafine Onyx Black Ink.

Card No. 6: Switching gears, my next set of projects showcase our new Cupcake Shape dies. These are larger than life A2 sized cupcakes that can be used to create shaped cards, banners, gift bags and even to embellish your scrapbook pages. The die set includes a cupcake that can be added directly to a rectangular card, a cupcake shadow to turn it into a standalone shape, a layered candle die, a cherry and two different candy sprinkle options.

My first project is showing how you can use it to create a shaped card. To do this I used the accompanying shadow to cut two cupcake shapes from white cardstock.  For the piece to be used on the back of my card, I cut off just a sliver along the bottom of my cupcake so that when completed my card won't rock and it can stand upright on a flat surface without rolling.  I then put that flat portion along the side of my scoring tool and scored a line near the top of my cupcake that was parallel to the bottom. I then added adhesive above that score line and adhered both cupcake pieces together. This forms my card base.

To build my cupcake, I cut the wrapper portion using our Spring Sunburst Paper pack and the frosting portion using our Gingham Pastels Paper pack, decorating with clay sprinkles from our Rainbow Dot Confetti mix. I wanted a way to tuck in my candle to look like it was between the layers of frosting and just not floating on the top so I used the little die from our Tropical Scenes Dies to create an opening. I finished my card by stamping the "sweet birthday wishes" sentiment from our Candy Shoppe Stamps and layering them on a banner cut from a polka-dot print using our Dots & Stripes Pastels Paper and the die from our Little Angels Die set.
Sunny Studio: Cupcake Shaped Birthday Card (using Candy Shoppe Stamps, Cupcake Shape Dies, Gingham Pastels & Spring Sunburst Paper)

Cupcake Gift Bag: For my next project using the Cupcake Shape Dies, I created a gift bag inspired by a faux patent leather Gymboree purse of my daughters from way back when. To give my bag the patent leather look and to help my Rainbow Sprinkles & Girly Sprinkles stay in place, I coated the entire surface with Glossy Accents. However, I'm not sure I would pull out the glossy accents for a project of this size again. It uses a lot and didn't dry as evenly as I would have liked since it's hard to work quick enough before it starts to set.

For these cupcakes, I cut the cake portion in a yellow polka-dot print from our Dots & Stripes Pastels Paper pack, the wrapper using a colorful stripe from our Summer Splash Paper pack and embellished the top with a stitched heart that comes with the cupcake die set.
Sunny Studio: Cupcake Shaped Birthday Gift Bag (using Cupcake Shape Dies, Rainbow Sprinkles, Girly Sprinkles, Summer Splash and Dots & Stripes Pastels Paper)

I've created a little tutorial to show how I created the bag from a single sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" cardstock:

And here's a view of the bag from the side just so you can see how it was constructed better.

If you look closely, you can see I hid the ends of my grosgrain ribbon handles on the inside of my bag by cutting the cupcake toppers with the main cupcake dies in that same kraft cardstock and then gluing them over the top of my ribbon. It blends in and really gives my bag a sturdy, finished look on the inside.

Cupcake Banner: Up next is a "celebrate" birthday banner created with the Cupcake Shape Dies, as well as our new Chloe Alphabet Dies.

Sunny Studio: Cupcake Shaped Birthday Banner (using Cupcake Shape Dies, Stitched Circle Dies, Scalloped Circle Mat Dies, Chloe Alphabet Dies and Rainbow Bright & Surprise Party Paper)

Our new Chloe Alphabet Dies measure .75" tall making them the ideal height for custom card sentiments, however on their own they were a bit on the small side for my banner. I was able to help them to take center stage though by cutting them from circles using our Stitched Circle Large Dies and then backing each of them with our Scalloped Circle Mat 1 Dies cut from white cardstock.

For my patterned papers, I used a mix of prints from both our Rainbow Bright Paper and Surprise Party Paper packs and embellished my cupcakes with the layered candles and sprinkles from the die set. Long banners like this can be really difficult to capture a good detailed photo of with it's horizontal orientation so I snapped a photo of each cupcake prior to adhering them to my white grosgrain ribbon.
Sunny Studio: Cupcake Shaped Birthday Banner (using Cupcake Shape Dies, Stitched Circle Dies, Scalloped Circle Mat Dies, Chloe Alphabet Dies and Rainbow Bright & Surprise Party Paper)

Card No. 7: When I was done with my banner, I had all positive portion of my "celebrate" Chloe Alphabet letters leftover that I had punched out so I set them aside and used them for a fun birthday card, pairing them some extra candles I had made with the Cupcake Shape Dies. My card base was created using papers from our Surprise Party Paper pack and the pink diagonal grid print from our Gingham Pastels Paper pack.

I added some wicks to my candles with my favorite Sharpie extra fine point white paint pen and sprinkled them with some white embossing powder, heating them up just to be certain they weren't going to bleed before covering the flames with glossy accents. While my glossy accents were out I went ahead and coated my "celebrate" letters too. I think I just might have used more glossy accents for this release than I have used in the past three years combined!  I completed my sentiment with the words "your special day" from our Inside Greetings Birthday Stamps.
Sunny Studio Stamps Celebrate Your Special Day Rainbow Candles Birthday Card (using Chloe Alphabet Dies, Cupcake Shape Dies & Surprise Party Paper)

Card No. 8: For my last card of the day, I have another project using the Cupcake Shape Dies without the cupcake. I had made these cherries up and then when I was cleaning up my desk, I realized I had forgotten to actually add them to any of my cupcakes so I thought I would create a special card for them to take center stage.

For my leaves I used the dies from our Potted Rose Dies, creating a little mask from a post-it note to add a vein down the center and shade each side with Mowed Lawn distress ink.  For my cherries I gave them a shiny glow rubbing on some Hero Arts Unicorn Pigment ink with my finger and then added a shiny mark with my Sharpie White Paint Pen.

I framed the cherries by layering our Stitched Circle Large Dies with a 3" circle die in my stash (for the thin blue circle peeking out), then the Scalloped Circle Mat 2 Dies cut from white, and the Scalloped Circle Mat 1 dies cut from red. I then mounted them onto a blue gingham print from our Gingham Pastels Paper pack and mimicked the same red & white scallop along the bottom using our Slimline Basic Border Dies. I completed my card with a custom punny sentiment pairing our Cute As a Button Stamps with the word "cherry" spelled out using our new Chloe Alphabet Dies. These dies have been so much fun to play with!

Sneak Peek: Introducing Beach Buddies, Tiki Time & Stitched Rectangles

Hello and welcome to day 2 of our Summer Peek Week!  All this week I am showcasing cards using our newest collection which will be available for purchase on Friday, April 16th.

Today I am sharing two new critter stamp sets for summer that work beautifully together or all on their own, along with our new Stitched Rectangle Dies which I shared quite a bit of yesterday. Let's jump right in.

Card No. 1: My first card features our new Beach Buddies stamps. This set comes with the same lovable critters from our previous Balloon Rides set in a new larger size, as well as a number of fun summer accessories that they can be paired with (or made to look like they are sitting inside of). For this card I paired the new sand bucket, shovel, beach bag, towel, sunscreen, sunglasses and critters from Beach Buddies with the sand castle, beach ball & umbrella from our Beach Babies Stamps. To keep a cohesive look for my busy scene, I limited my Copic Marker color palette to red, white, blue and aqua, with a touch of brown for my sand and critters.

For my backdrop, I colored my sky with Tumbled Glass distress ink and my waves from Salty Ocean which I then splattered with water and die-cut using our Catch A Wave Dies. My sandy hills were stamped using our Oceans of Joy Stamps and then inked up using Tea Dye distress ink.

This set comes with two great "Summer" and "Sunshine" script words and a number of companion sentiments that can be mixed and matched with them. For this card I stamped my greeting with VersaMark Ink onto a small strip of black cardstock and then heat embossed it with Hero Arts White Detail Embossing Powder.
Sunny Studio: Dog & Cat Beach Themed Card (using Beach Buddies, Beach Babies & Oceans of Joy Stamps and Catch A Wave Dies)

Card No. 2:
Up next is a happy card using the cute little watermelon with paws image from the Beach Buddies set that you can place in front of any of the 6 critters. I decided to use the three bears for this card (even though I realize koalas aren't technically bears) and lined them up on the smallest rectangle from the new Stitched Rectangles Dies set. For my greeting I used the phrase from our Slice of Summer Stamps which was stamped using Versafine Onyx Black ink.

To repeat my watermelon theme, I used a green striped print from our Sleek Stripes Paper pack for my background and rounded the bottom corners with my We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper tool. I then recreated a watermelon slice by inking up our Stitched Circle Small Dies and Stitched Circle Large Dies. For the red portion of my watermelon, I blended Worn Lipstick, Candy Apple and a tiny bit of Barn Door distress ink on the edges. For the other stitched circle I used Twisted Citron distress ink and then for the darkest portion of my rind I used our Scalloped Circle Mat 1 dies inked up with Mowed Lawn distress ink. For my watermelon seeds I used the largest raindrop from our Rain or Shine Dies which I cut from black cardstock and added a shine mark with my Sharpie Extra Fine Point White Paint Pen. Love when I can re-purpose supplies like that!

In an attempt to tie the two individual portions of my card together, I cut a stitched heart from red cardstock using our Window Trio Circle Dies which I then inked up along the bottom with some more barn door distress ink.
Sunny Studio: Panda, Koala & Bear eating Watermelon Card (using Beach Buddies & Slice of Summer Stamps, Stitched Rectangle Dies, Stitched Circle Dies Small & Large, Scalloped Circle Mat 1 Dies and Sleek Stripes Paper)

Card No. 3: The Beach Buddies Set comes with two great floats including an adorable pink flamingo and a polka-dot inner tube that matches the one found in our Sealiously Sweet Stamps. I kept this particular card really clean and simple, starting by inking a cardstock panel with a pink ombre, blending Worn Lipstick Distress ink with
the new Kitsch Flamingo distress ink. To keep a graphic feel, I started by first die-cutting the outer edge of my pink panel using our Frilly Frames Herringbone Dies and then cut out a smaller panel using the middle sized rectangle from our new Stitched Rectangle Dies. I love the results!

For my greeting, I heat embossed the words "Happy Summer" using VersaMark Ink together with Hero Arts White Detail Embossing Powder. I then arranged my critters to look like they are sorting of floating down an invisible pink river, adding a few random rhinestones from our new Pink Spinel Jewels. It's such a simple design, but the fun retro 1950's inspired color scheme made this one of my favorites of the day!

On a side note before we move on to the next card, I should mention I wanted to see if I could make it look like my koala was coming through the tube, rather than just sitting on top so I trimmed out the back portion of the flamingo with my scissors and also tried to trim close to the koala's body so that he could just barely squeeze in. It sort of worked, but in hindsight I would probably just layer him on top like I did with the bunny next time.  ;)
Sunny Studio: Critters on Polka-dot & Flamingo Float Tubes Summer Card (using Beach Buddies & Sealiously Sweet Stamps, Frilly Frames Herringbone Dies & Stitched Rectangle Dies & Pink Spinel Jewels)

Card No. 4: My next card illustrates all the fun ways the critters can layer together with the Beach Buddies accessories to look like they are peeking out from the sand bucket, beach bag and inner tube. To frame each critter, I used the stitched squares from our Window Quad Square Dies and mounted them onto a blue checked print from our Classic Sunburst Paper pack. I finished my simple design with a sentiment from the Beach Buddies set stamped with Versafine Onyx Black Ink.
Sunny Studio Blog: May Your Day Be Filled With Sunshine Summer Card (using Beach Buddies Stamps, Window Quad Square Dies & Classic Sunburst Paper)

Card No. 5: Switching gears a bit, my next card combines the critters from Beach Buddies with the Tiki Bar, Drinks, Bird, Torch & Sentiment from our new Tiki Time Stamps. Our new Tiki Time Stamps are such a fun set with so many possibilities!  For this card I took inspiration from a photo I found when googling beach sunsets. To recreate the look, I blended Salty Ocean, Picked Raspberry & Carved Pumpkin distress inks.

For my sandy hills, I cut them using our Slimline Nature Border Dies which I inked up with Antique Linen distress ink and then stippled with various colors of Copic Markers for a sandy texture. Virgin Piña Coladas are my all time favorite so when I came across this cute sentiment I knew I needed to include it with the stamp set (the set also includes a separate "~" to include over the letter "n" for those that want to write it properly in Spanish).
You are the Pina to My Colada Tiki Bar Light Up Car (using Beach Buddies & Tiki Time Stamps and Slimline Nature Border Dies)

Card View with Light-up Feature: Using Chibitronics White LED lights together with Copper Foil Tape & Coin Batteries I turned my card into an interactive light-up card. This was my first time dipping my toe into this arena and I was surprised at how easy it was with the help of THIS tutorial as a guide. Since my design didn't have a good way to add a "push me" type button, I added the small flower as a way to tell the recipient where to push. It just sort of worked out that it also helped offset the bird in the top left corner of my card and add a bit of balance to my overall card design.

To give my on/off button over my battery enough space to stay off when not being pushed, I built up the entire background with one layer of foam tape, cutting around the battery portion as shown in the linked video. I then added a second layer of foam tape for my second sand dune except for where the batter was located.  This gave me just the clearance I needed to allow my lights to shut off when not in use.

This was seriously so much fun! I can imagine this becoming a small addiction to see what else I can light up. I was able to save quite a bit of money by skipping Chibritronics starter kit and buying my other supplies in bulk at a cheaper price. I now have enough supplies to make 15 light up cards. In fact I think I have enough copper tape to make 50 cards so that was a really good value and will most likely last me forever.

You are the Pina to My Colada Tiki Bar Light Up Car (using Beach Buddies & Tiki Time Stamps and Slimline Nature Border Dies)

Card No. 6: Up next is a fun hula inspired card using the Elephant from the Tiki Time Stamps. My family did a little one-on-one hula lessons when visiting Hawaii's Polynesian Cultural Center about 15 years ago and this card with them all lined up in the grass reminds me of that experience.

To create the base of my card I started by cutting my scalloped background using our Fancy Frames Rectangle Dies, trimming down my notecard about 1/8" before mounting the scalloped frame to it. Our new Stitched Rectangle Dies have been designed to not only compliment these Fancy Frames dies, but also to work together with all of our previously released Frilly Frames Dies. As a bonus, none of the stitched rectangles in this set, duplicate the sizes found in any of our other die sets.

My sky was inked using a light touch of Peacock Feathers distress ink and the grass was created by blending the new Rustic Wilderness Distress Ink, together with Mowed Lawn and Twisted Citron. I then cut the grassy edge using the border die that comes with our new Picket Fence dies (which will be featured fully on Thursday). For my custom punny greeting I used the words "happy" and "day" from our Happy Thoughts Stamps and paired them with the word Hula which I cut using our new Chloe Alphabet Dies (being shared tomorrow).
Sunny Studio: Happy Hula Day Punny Elephant Card (using Tiki Time & Happy Thoughts Stamps, Chloe Alphabet Dies, Fancy Frames Rectangle Dies & Stitched Rectangle Dies)

Card No. 7: My next card is another take on the Tiki Bar from the Time Time set. This time I used it on a horizontal card and paired it with the koala and sunhat from the Beach Buddies set. For my ocean inspired background I inked up a panel using Broken China and Peacock Feathers distress ink which I splattered with water and set aside to dry. I then inked up a strip of white cardstock with Antique Linen distress ink for my sand and cut the stitched edge using our Woodland Border Dies. To fill the empty void in my background, I stamped and colored a couple of palm trees from our Tropical Scenes Stamps with Copic Markers and tucked them behind my sand dune.

For my foreground I arranged the tropical banana leaves from the Tiki Time set to look like a plant growing on either side of my scene, also adding a parrot from Tiki Time and a crab from our Oceans of Joy Stamps. The Tiki Time set comes with the "seas the day" punny sentiment, however the word "seas" was feeling a bit too small for this particular card so to make it feel more prominent, I spelled out the same word using our Loopy Letters Dies. This was one of those cards where I kept tinkering with it, add a little bit here and a little bit there, but in the end I really love how it turned out.
Sunny Studio: Koala with Tiki Bar Card (using Tiki Time, Beach Buddies, Tropical Scenes & Oceans of Joy Stamps and Loopy Letters & Slimline Nature Border Dies)

Card No. 8:
For my last card of the day I used the two little parrots from the Tiki Time Stamps together with the tree branch from our A Bird's Life Stamps. To give my tree branch a more tropical feel I layered it with some leaves and flowers from the Tiki Time set. This type of tree branch might not exist in real life, but I love the tropical vibe it gave my card.  To frame my little bird couple I added a stitched circle cut from our Dots & Striped Pastels Paper using our Stitched Circle Small Dies. This was actually a scrap sitting on my desk as a leftover from a shaker card window I cut for a card I will be sharing tomorrow and when I saw it, I thought it would be a cute way to frame my bird couple and looked a bit like an over-sized moon behind them.

My background was inked up with a heavy layer of Salty Ocean distress ink and then trimmed down using our Stitched Rectangle Dies. When my background was fully dry, I heat embossed my sentiment from the set using VersaMark Ink and Hero Arts White Detail Embossing Powder. Some Cornflower Blue Jewels were the perfect way to finish this simple card and give it a little touch of sparkle.
