Layered Poinsettia & Christmas Garland Dies + Season's Greetings Stamps

Hello and welcome to day 4 of our Winter Sneak Peek Week!  All this week I am sharing cards using our new collection for the holidays shipping on Friday, September 27th

Today's sneak peeks include a really fun new layered poinsettia die, a new A2 sized standalone die, 2 new 6x6 embossing folders and a stunning 4x6 sentiment stamp set.  Let's dig right in!

Card No. 1:  For my first card of the day I am using the new Layered Poinsettia dies to create a beautiful holiday card. Each poinsettia has 5 individual petal/ leaf layers (not including the veining or center) so these can be made to look super dimensional.  It's worth noting that all those layers can take a bit of time to put together (for example these two flowers here took me about an hour to cut out and adhere together), but all your hard work is rewarded with some seriously gorgeous finished blooms.

Each poinsettia package comes with a layering guide to help you get everything lined up just right, but Sandy Alnock also shared a stunning card on her blog HERE showing another great way to use them without having to line them up which would be perfect for mass producing.

For my card I started by cutting a 3.75" square from my front card panel and then inked up my card front beneath using some Worn Lipstick distress ink going lighter towards the center to give my sentiment a glowing appearance.  I then stamped my sentiment in the center using a phrase from our new Season's Greetings stamps. Can I just say I'm smitten?!  These sentiments are such a pretty script and I adore their large size.  You almost don't need to do much more than stamp a sentiment, right?

The set comes with some extra sprigs and berries which I double stamped with a second ink color just along the edges for some variation and shading.  I then cut them with the dies and layered them beneath each poinsettia. The Iridescent bubbles look so cool for the flower centers and give my card an extra dose of elegance.

Card No. 2:  For my next card, I only used four of the five petal layers for our Layered Poinsettia dies to save some time and I also skipped the dies for the petal veins, this time pulling out some Copic markers in complimentary colors and just flicking on some quick veins.  I mass produced 50 of these flowers for some store displays and while they still took a decent amount of time, they went a bit quicker than my first example. I once again dressed up the centers with some green pearls from our rainbow pearls mix.

For my background, I inked up the raised portions of our new Buffalo Plaid embossing folder with some VersaFine Onyx Black ink using a brayer.  This gives an even application of the ink to the surface, while avoiding adding ink to the bottom layers (you just have to be careful to avoid sticking your fingers in it.  I then gently laid a piece of red cardstock on the clean side of my folder and carefully closed the folder, making sure to hold it tight so it couldn't shift before running it through my die-cutting machine.  I then set it out to fully dry while I worked on cutting out my sentiment.

This "Merry Christmas" phrase comes with our new Christmas Garland Frame die and is another great way to make a big splash on your holiday cards. I cut mine from white cardstock to help it pop against the busy pattern below and then continued the rustic, woodsy feel by cutting an oval window from some wood print paper (from our Amazing Argyle paper Pack) using our Stitched Ovals dies.
Sunny Studio Stamps: Layered Poinsettia Holiday Christmas Card (using Amazing Argyle Paper, Buffalo Plaid Embossing Folder & Merry Christmas Greeting from Christmas Garland Frame Die)

Card No. 3:  Up next is a card focusing all the sprigs and berries from our Season's Greetings Stamps.  I turned to Gina K's Wreath Builder Template to repeatedly stamp the tree bough twigs to form my wreath.  These templates are super fun to play with and like a kaleidoscope, you can create so many variations by simply moving the stamp pieces a little bit here or there (I created a fuller wreath with more variations in ink colors that I really loved, but when I was done I accidentally used a circle die to cut it out that was too small and I had to toss it--I cried a little inside).  Anyway, after that happened I decided I should make the best with what I stamped here on my first attempt.

This version had some extra space in the center which was feeling like an empty void so I filled it with the word "Christmas" from our Season's Greetings Stamps. Using the original merry word that came with it was just too large for the space so I fussy cut the word Christmas out and paired it with a smaller "merry" word from our Merry Sentiments stamps.  I had some extra berries I had stamped from my first card which I used to dress up my wreath, adding some glossy accents over the top for extra shine. I then framed my wreath using a stitched scalloped circle from our Fancy Frames Circle Dies and mounted them onto a diamond print from our new Subtle Grey Tones 6x6 Paper pack.  The finished size of this card measures 5" square.

Card No. 4: For this card I really wanted to showcase our new Christmas Garland Frame dies. To make my garland look fuller I employed Jennifer McGuire's trick for mirroring die-cuts (shared HERE), cutting a second set from a complimentary color of cardstock and layering them behind the original.

For my background, I inked up my card base with some tumbled glass distress ink along the edges, fading to white in the center and then stamped my sentiment using the Season's Greetings Stamps.  The Christmas Garland dies come with some dimensional berries which you can layer together from three colors of cardstock which look great with our Layered Poinsettia dies.  It's hard to see the layers in the photo due to my use of the glossy accents over the top, but they look really cool in person!  For this version of my poinsettia I thought I would try to die-cut the veins from the individual leaf petals before layering them together.  While it's a fun look, it's also the most time consuming option I tried.

So what's that thin border around the edge you might be wondering?  Well, my card base was cut a bit too large and was showing though to the front of my card so I thought I would use my trimmer to trim it down after the fact, but my blade caught on the edge of the frame and tore the edge of my finished card (another moment near tears) so I decided to salvage it by cutting some thin strips of cardstock to match and layer over the boo-boo.  Now rather than being something my eye goes to every time I see it, it looks like something that is a design element with the border on all four sides. :)

Card No. 5:
Up next is a card that is pretty similar to the last one, but this time I wanted to go for a more woodsy, rustic feel using our new Woodgrain Embossing Folder together with our Christmas Garland Frame dies.

I embossed a heavy weight piece of Neenah Desert Storm cardstock (similar to kraft paper in color) and then colored over the surface using a Vintage Photo Distress Crayon which I rubbed into the surface with my finger to really show off the texture of my embossed paper. I then cut the "Merry Christmas" phrase from red cardstock twice and used a glue pen to stack them together for some extra dimension.  For my two pine cones I used our Christmas Trimmings stamps and then fussy cut the images with my scissors, popping them up with some foam tape.
Sunny Studio: Pinecone Merry Christmas Rustic Holiday Card (using Christmas Trimmings Stamps, Christmas Garland Frame Dies & Woodgrain 6x6 Embossing Folder)

Card No. 6:
For this card I went soft and pretty using the exact same Woodgrain Embossing Folder and Christmas Garland Frame dies.  I started by embossing a heavy 110 lb. piece of white cardstock which I then inked up with some Spun Sugar Distress Oxide ink.  This time I cut a single garland frame from white cardstock to place over the top.

I cut three jingle bells from metallic shimmer cardstock using our Silver Bells dies which I layered over a 1" circle punched from charcoal cardstock (or if you don't have the right color, you use white cardstock and create the color you need with some markers).  I wanted a sentiment to match my bells so I heat embossed my Christmas phrase using our Season's Greetings Stamps with silver embossing powder onto vellum.  Then I had the dilemma of how I was going to adhere it without showing any adhesive (since my Spray Mount had gone bad).  The scalloped edge our largest Fancy Frames Rectangle dies came to my rescue! It hid my adhesive and dressed up my card at the same time.

Card No. 7:
I went clean and simple for my final card of the day using our Snowflake Circle Frame die together with our Layered Poinsettia die.  I stamped my "Happy New Year" sentiment using our Season's Greetings Stamps onto a fun tone-on-tone print from our new Subtle Grey Tones Paper pack and used a little strip of green from our Very Merry Paper pack...

Before I go, I have a little note worth mentioning about cutting intricate dies... A metal shim like this one HERE placed between your platform and your bottom cutting plate will become your new best friend and make life sooo much easier. It just gives your cutting sandwich the extra pressure it needs to cut them out with a lot less stress.

Sneak Peek: Feeling Frosty, Snowflake Frames & Subtle Grey Tones Paper

Hi there!  Welcome to the third day of our Winter Sneak Peek Week!  All this week I am showcasing cards featuring our newest collection for the holidays which begins shipping on Friday, September 27th

Today's sneak peeks include a new 4x6 stamp set, two standalone dies and a new 6x6 Patterned Paper Pack. Let's get started!

Card No. 1:  For my first card of the day I created a 4.75" x 4.75" square card showcasing 5 of the 6 snowmen from our new Feeling Frosty Stamps together with the largest frame and scripty greeting from our new Layered Snowflake Frames. This die set comes with snowflake windows in two sizes that layer together or can be used separately like I did for this card. In addition to the "winter wishes" phrase, it includes 4 coordinating snowflakes to layer over the top or use on their own.

For this card I started by layering the die-cut, cut from white cardstock onto a piece of blue diagonal grid patterned paper from our Classic Gingham 6x6 Paper pack. I then used that as inspiration for coloring my snowmen, coloring them all in coordinating cool jewel tones using Copic Markers.

Card No. 2: For my next card, I went bright and happy focusing on the little companion tree from the Feeling Frosty set. I thought the stylized trees looked a little like the metal Christmas trees that Linus complains about in A Charlie Brown Christmas so I colored each one in a different cheerful color and went over them with my Nuvo Glitter pen for a bit of sparkle. To continue my Charlie Brown inspired scene, I strung the lights from our new Scenic Route Stamps overhead and used the leftover snowy patterned paper (from my critter sleigh card I shared on Monday) for my background and a striped paper from our Very Merry Paper Pack to tie in all the rainbow colors. To create my simple snow covered hillside, I used our Woodland Border Dies which I stamped my sentiment directly onto.
Sunny Studio Stamps: Feeling Frosty Sending Snuggly Hugs Snowman with rainbow Christmas trees Holiday Card (using Very Merry Paper & Woodland Border Dies)

Card No. 3:
Up next a card using our other new standalone die called Snowflake Circle Frame (such an original name, right? I swear I'm terrible at naming things).  I love that the two components of this die can be used together or separately. Unlike the snowflakes in the first die set, this one has snowflakes in a large range of sizes and the loopy frame is so great for grounding focal point images all year 'round.

To make things really pop I mounted them onto a piece of black cardstock and tied all the colors in with a polka-dot print from our Very Merry Paper pack, rounding the bottom corners with my We R Memory Keeper Corner Chomper. For this card I used just half of the Winter Wishes die phrase, pairing it with the "wishes" word from our Alpaca Holiday stamps which I heat embossed with opaque white embossing powder. A Snowman from Feeling Frosty was the perfect focal point image and coordinating pearls placed in the center of each snowflake from our Rainbow Pearls embellishment mix were just the right finishing touch.
Sunny Studio Stamps: Feeling Frosty Rainbow Polka-dot Snowman Winter Wishes Holiday Christmas Card (using Snowflake Circle Frame Dies & Very Merry 6x6 Paper)

Card No. 4:
For this card I started by repeatedly stamping and heat embossing a piece of inexpensive watercolor paper with a snowy background using our Frosty Flurries stamps (making sure to cover a larger piece than I would need so I would have room to cut it down).  I then added a wash of rainbow colors over the top using Daniel Smith Watercolors (in Opera Pink, Permanent Orange, Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue, Phthalo Yellow Green, Cobalt Teal Blue, Manganese Blue, Phthalo Blue and Quinacridone Purple). The heat embossed portions resisted the color and the spots that maybe were a tiny bit stained could be repaired with my white Sharpie Pen.

To create my scalloped mat, I ran our new Scalloped Tag Square dies through my die-cutting machine twice with the top half of the die running off the edge of my plate so that it wouldn't cut that portion of the die. I then flipped the die the other direction and lined up the scallops going the other way, repeating the process to create a rectangle. This is a great way to elongate basic dies and get extra life from your supplies.  While it may not be something you want to do for mass producing, it's a great little trick to have in your back pocket.

I finished my little scene using images from our Feeling Frosty stamps which I colored to match using Copic Markers. When I was completely done and able to set my card aside to dry, I gave my hearts a bit of pizzazz by coating them with some Stickles Glam Pink Liquid Glitter by Ranger.

Card No. 5 (Outside): For this card I returned to the Layered Snowflake Frame dies, this time using them layered together on an A2 sized card front. For my background I used a blue snowflake print from our Holiday Cheer Paper pack that was layered with a snowy hill using our Woodland Border dies.  For my tree I used our Seasonal Trees Stamps which I colored in snowy hues and then topped with some glittery polka-dots using my favorite Stardust Stickles Glitter by Ranger. To create a visual triangle around my scene, I used three of the four snowflakes that come with the Layered Snowflake Frame dies and then colored my little snowman from our Feeling Frosty Stamps to match.

Sunny Studio: Feeling Frosty Snowman Holiday Christmas Card (using Layered Snowflake Frame Dies, Seasonal Trees Stamps & Holiday Cheer 6x6 Paper)

Inside Pop-up Card: For the inside of my card I was inspired to create a shadow box pop-up using THIS amazing video tutorial by Jennifer McGuire.

This time I had a little less space to work with so I only used the smaller of the two snowflake windows from the set. I also wanted to make sure my snowflakes didn't get bent up during use so I adhered a piece of acetate behind my little snowflake frame before permanently gluing the pop-up to the inside of my card.

To decorate my scene, I used the fourth leftover snowflake, together with the smaller tree from our Seasonal Trees Stamps and two snowmen with their hot cocoa mugs from our Feeling Frosty stamps.  I rarely stamp the inside of my cards so my mom will literally be shocked when she comes across this one (since she has a habit of opening each one I show her despite them being empty in there).  ;)

Gift Tag Set:  For my final project of the day I have a trio of holiday gift tags using our new stitched Scalloped Square Tag Dies (the same ones I elongated for card no. 3) together with our Feeling Frosty Snowmen. I mass produced a bunch of these using all the great tone-on-tone prints from our Very Merry Paper pack, stamping the "to" and "from" using our new Season's Greetings stamps featured more tomorrow. Little baker's twine bows which I adhered with some hot glue were the perfect, quick finishing touch. For these I will adhere them directly to my gifts with some double sided tape.

Sneak Peek Week: Merry Mice, Hogs & Kisses, Stitched Scalloped Tag Dies

Hello and welcome to our Winter Sneak Peek Week!  All this week I will be showcasing cards using our new collection for the holidays shipping on Friday, September 27th

Today's sneak peeks includes two additional new holiday critter stamp sets and two new stitched scalloped tag die sets.

Card No. 1:  My first card of the day spotlights our new Merry Mice Stamps which feature 5 adorable mice and lots of fun companion images for scene building options.  For this card I focused on the little caroling mouse, adding various warm weather accessories to each one to personalize them.

To set my scene in the background, I heat embossed a piece of watercolor paper using our Frosty Flurries Stamps, which I then colored with a wash of Daniel Smitth watercolors using a resist technique.  I then layered over the top, a row of houses from our new Scenic Route Stamps and snowy hillsides using our Woodland Border Dies which were inked up with Tumbled Glass distress ink.

To finish my card I stamped musical notes from our Little Angels Stamps and heat embossed my sentiment using a sentiment from the set, pairing it with the word "Christmas" from our new Christmas Garland Frame die being shared more later this week.

Sunny Studio: Merry Mice Christmas Caroling Mouse Holiday Card (using Woodland Border dies, Christmas Garland Dies, Scenic Route Stamps and Frosty Flurries Stamps)

Card No. 2:  For the little mouse image in the stocking, I immediately thought of our Fireplace Shaped Die set. I wanted to add the look of tiles to my fireplace so after die-cutting the card shape, I pulled out my Dapper Diamonds 6x6 Embossing Folder.

To give the appearance of grout between my "tiles", I used a brayer to apply an even layer of Colorbox Cape Cod pigment ink to the raised parts of my embossing folder before carefully sandwiching a piece of white cardstock in between and running it through my die-cutting machine. I then sponged on a lighter layer of that same ink all over my entire embossed panel.

To give my log and flames a realistic appearance, I added free-handed coloring details to my die-cut pieces using Copic Markers.
Sunny Studio: Merry Mice Christmas Mouse Hanging in Stockings from Fireplace Shaped Holiday Card (using Fireplace Die & Dapper Diamonds 6x6 Embossing Folder)

Card No. 3:
Up next is a card showcasing one of my favorite images from the set and the star of our new enamel pin: the mouse in the coffee mug. The cup he's in looks great paired with the other mugs from our Mug Hugs Stamps. For my speech bubble, I used an image from our new Hogs & Kisses Stamps (featured more below).

To create a subtle print in my background, I used another little mug from our new Feeling Frosty Stamps (shared tomorrow) stamped with red ink onto red cardstock.  I then created a bit of definition between the panels using the smallest border from our Ric Rac Border Dies.
Sunny Studio: Merry Mice & Mug Hugs Christmas Mouse Holiday Card (using Ric Rac Border Dies, Mug image from Feeling Frosty Stamps & Speech Bubble from Hogs & Kisses Stamps)

Card No. 4:
My next card features the adorable mouse snowman from the set!  I colored my houses from our Scenic Route Stamps to match a striped paper from our Holiday Cheer Paper pack and then used an unconventional pink for my sky for an evening rosy glow. Those ear muffs... I just want to pinch that little mouse's cheeks!
Sunny Studio Stamps: Merry Mice & Scenic Route Mouse Snowman and Christmas House Holiday Card

Card No. 5:
For my last mouse themed card of the day, I turned to our new Christmas Garland Frame which I cut twice from two complimentary colors of green cardstock.  I then ran one of them through my die-cutting machine sandwiched with a piece of printer paper (thank you Jennifer McGuire) to flatten it out and make it suitable for mirroring and using wrong side up.  The extra layer gives my garland frame a fuller appearance that I just adore!

For this card, I wanted to create the appearance that we are peering at them in their cozy little spot in the wall from a peep hole.  To set my scene I borrowed the fireplace and stockings from our new Santa Claus Lane Stamps and the Hot Cocoa Mugs from our new Feeling Frosty stamps.  The subtle red diamond print from our Very Merry Paper pack made the perfect wallpaper.
Sunny Studio: Merry Mice Christmas Mouse with Cheese Tree & Fireplace with Stockings Holiday Card (using Christmas Garland Frame die & Santa Claus Lane Stamps)

Card No. 6:
I'm switching gears, moving from mice to pigs with a card featuring our newest 3x4 stamp set called Hogs & Kisses.  These three little pigs make me smile!  I was looking for a way to frame them on my card and I thought turning them into little portraits using our Fancy Frames Square dies would be a fun way to display them.

To add a bit of color I used a rainbow striped print from our Very Merry Paper pack which was layered with a simple grey grid print from our new Subtle Grey Tones Paper pack. For my sentiment, I used a phrase from the set which was stamped onto a speech bubble using the coordinating Hogs & Kisses Dies cut from a pink polka-dot print from our Holiday Cheer Paper pack.

At this point I was feeling like my card was a bit heavy on the right side so to help balance things out visually, I scattered some die-cut hearts from our Basic Mini Shape Dies II which were topped with Glossy Accents to give them shine.
Sunny Studio Stamps: Holiday Hogs & Kisses Scalloped Pig Themed Christmas Card (using Very Merry & Subtle Grey Tones 6x6 Paper & Fancy Frames Square Dies)

Card No. 7: I couldn't resist using one of the everyday pigs from the set to create a love themed card.  As I started building my little scene using our Fluffy Cloud dies and Stitched Heart dies, I thought the piggies would look adorable as flying pigs so I borrowed the wings from our Pet Sympathy Stamps.

For my sentiment I used the "hogs and kisses" phrase from the set, pairing them with the "sending" word from our Happy Thoughts Stamps. To add a little interest to my background I used a polka-dot print from our Dots & Stripes Pastels Paper and finished off the bottom edge of my card with our Stitched Scallop Dies.
Sunny Studio Stamps: Sending Hogs & Kisses Flying Pigs Love Themed Valentine's Day Card (using Pet Sympathy Stamps, Fluffy Clouds Dies, Stitched Heart Dies, Stitched Scalloped Dies & Dots & Stripes Pastel 6x6 Paper)

Tag Set No.1:  For my next piggy project I used the holiday pigs on some bright and happy Christmas tags using our newest Scalloped Circle Tags.  Each die set comes with tags in two versatile sizes.  These here use the larger of the two tags from the set and can be dressed up in so many ways.

I started by cutting tags from solid blue cardstock to use as my tag back (which I stamped with my "to" and "from") and then from there cut extra pieces from patterned paper to layer on the front from our Very Merry Paper pack.  I love the interest adding a little bit of extra pattern adds without being too busy.  I finished my tags with some heart reinforcers from our Build-A-Tag 2 dies and some solid baker's twine.

Sunny Studio Stamps: Hoggy Holidays Pig Themed Christmas Gift Tags (using Hogs & Kisses Stamps, Stitched Scalloped Circle Tag dies & Very Merry 6x6 Paper)

Tag Set No.2: Up next is another set of holiday gift tags using the second new tag set, this time the Scalloped Square Tag dies.  The largest of the two tags in the set measures 3.25" wide and is the perfect size for little stamped vignettes.

For these here I paired them with images from our Merry Mice Stamps and the heart print paper from that same Very Merry Paper pack and the candy cane striped pattern from our Holiday Cheer Paper pack.  On the backside I kept things simple and stamped my "to" and "from".

Sunny Studio Stamps: Merry Mice Christmas Mouse Holiday Gift Tags (using Very Merry 6x6 Paper & Scalloped Square Tag Dies)

Tag Set No.3:  Both these sets come with a smaller mini tags which are so perfect for mass producing quick and easy tags for all the people on your gift list.  Even better both sizes of  tags from these new sets layer nicely with the dies from our Fancy Frames Circle Dies and Fancy Frames Square Dies.

To dress up my 2" tags I cut them from brightly colored tone-on-tone papers from our new Very Merry Paper pack and then stamped them with a few mini snowflakes from our Feeling Frosty Stamps using coordinating ink colors and matching pieces of baker's twine.
